Syros Beaches

2 minutes to read

Particular and little known by tourists Syros, is the administrative center of the archipelago of the Cyclades Islands and also a beautiful island where you can enjoy a relaxing holiday without missing anything.

In ancient times, due to its well-developed trade, it was a very important port even more than the great Piraeus. Famous for its shipyards where even today you can find shipwrights almost endangered in the whole of Greece, it is mainly concentrated in its capital Ermoupolis, a delightful town built as an amphitheater in the middle of two hills with its streets which are a continuous ups and downs (and here the buttocks will thank ...), full of historical places to see and where to savor the true spirit of the island.

Syros at first glance upon your arrival may seem arid and with a lunar landscape, but like a chocolate, inside and in the southern part it is full of green areas where the silence and the slow pace of time are the masters and a luxuriant nature and still wild gives itself to the visitor.

But let's talk about its beaches, scenic and with coasts mainly of soft sand, with shallow waters and therefore perfect for families with children, where transparent waters with changing colors like a caress join the wonderful beaches to spend whole days being kissed by warm rays of the Hellenic sun and forget about everything.

Here we will give you some information on the beaches to visit in Syros, but the rule is always that if you find others, we will be happy to make them known to the world.

Megas Gialos Beach

Megas Gialos beach is located in the southernmost tip of the island of Syros about twelve kilometers from the center of the capital Ermoupolis. A very famous and beaten coast especially in the summer, long and narrow with soft golden sand and tamarisk trees behind that offer shade during the day. The sea is always calm due to its sheltered position, it is of an intense blue and its waters now almost needless to say are clean and transparent. The seabed slopes gently making it a real paradise for lovers of long swims and for families with small children. Megas Gialos beach is equipped with sunbeds and straw umbrellas, and as for drinks and food, it has several taverns where you can sit and enjoy the delicacies while contemplating the sea. Under the hill, the village of the same name with its pretty colorful houses which, in addition to offering a spectacular view across the bay, also offers various accommodation opportunities.

Agathopes Beach

Agathopes beach is located in the southwestern part of Syros in the Posidonia area. The beautiful village of Posidonia owes its name to the God of the Sea Poseidon to whom the town was dedicated in ancient times. Another name attributed to the area is Delle Grazie for the Catholic church of the Virgin to which it is dedicated. Posidonia was once the "holiday resort" of the wealthy and this is demonstrated by the fact that you can admire many neoclassical residences and houses with turrets and well-kept gardens. Agathopes beach, protected by the Ministry of the Environment, has a coastline of fine sand where delicate sea lilies bloom at certain times of the year. It is bathed by a turquoise sea with transparent and calm waters, ideal for a regenerating swim as well as a diving club to explore the underwater wonders. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, while to appease the languor of hunger you will find taverns and restaurants with succulent dishes based on fresh fish, bars for a quick snack and for those who want a quiet and stress-free holiday, various tourist facilities to satisfy any need.

Poseidonia Beach

Poseidonia Beach is located in the homonymous area in the southwestern part of the island of Syros. A famous coast coveted by all visitors, right in front of the two rocky and uninhabited islets of Stroggylo and Schinonissi. A sandy beach with occasionally a few stones, with a blue and turquoise sea, with transparent and extremely clean waters with a shallow bottom. In a stretch there are some palm trees that give an almost tropical atmosphere and offer shelter and coolness during the hottest hours. It is well equipped, with nothing missing sun beds, umbrellas, amenities ranging from typical tavernas to bars, cafes all with magnificent sea views. Komito Beach is located in the south on the west side of the beautiful Syros Island about one kilometer from the town of Agathopes. A narrow shoreline of small pebbles immersed in nothing, only wild and uncontaminated nature nothing more ', but what else could you want for a holiday? Behind it curious reddish hills as well as majestic olive trees and cypress trees. The sea that bathes it is blue with transparent and clear waters. It has a few straw umbrellas to shelter from the hot Hellenic sun. Bring everything you need from water and food if you want to stay there all day I recommend. Reaching it is not difficult, at a certain point you have to follow a dirt path that starts from the main road, not difficult but always be careful.

Ampela Beach

Ampela Beach is located in the southwestern part of Syros not far from the better known Megas Gialos beach. A small cove where silence and tranquility are at home which, despite its small size, is much more comfortable than many others. A light-colored sandy beach with clear and clean waters, a sky-blue sea with a bottom that descends slowly. There is not only a few shy little trees to be grabbed if you arrive early as there are few to shelter from the sun. As for food and drink, there are several taverns and bars where you can enjoy a snack rather than a traditional meal based on local specialties or Greek cuisine. Even here, if you want to stay, the choice between apartments rather than a private house will not be impossible, certainly difficult but just organize yourself in time with the reservation.

Kokkina Beach

Kokkina beach, is on the west side of Syros in the south of the island near the Foinikas village which is home to its beautiful beach among other things. Small and little known perhaps because a little remote is a perfect destination for those who love days in total relaxation with only the sound of the sea. It is never crowded on the contrary and perhaps also for this reason very popular with naturists. A sandy coast with a sea with an exotic atmosphere, with crystal clear waters rich in sea urchins. The seabed in addition to these nice and let's face it also exquisite inhabitants has some mainly flat rocks and in this regard we recommend to those who have the delicate feet of rock shoes to avoid getting hurt and above all slipping. Obviously it is not equipped but it can also be reached for those who do not have a rental vehicle through the public bus rides that depart from Ermoupolis and will take you to your destination in about thirty minutes.

Vari Beach

And here we are at Vari beach in the southern part of the island on the east side in the little man village where you can find all the amenities. A beautiful bay constantly sheltered from the wind thanks to its particular position that offers a beach of soft sand, bathed by a blue-tuchese-blue sea with transparent and always very calm waters. The paradise for families with children where the little ones can have fun in complete safety since the seabed drops very slowly and the adults relax and aspire to the long-awaited tan. Vari beach is well equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and with the possibility of having fun with the family or with old or new friends in various water sports. As for the catering, even here only the embarrassment of choice, between typical taverns rather than restaurants all with a single common denominator, traditional dishes based on fresh fish. For the more 'romantics, however, a walk on the shore at sunset is not to be missed!

Ahladi Beach

We therefore arrive at Ahladi beach just for a change in the southeastern part of the Syros island less than a kilometer from the village of Vari. A tourist village inside a bay with a beautiful market and many accommodation facilities where to stay for a holiday in Syros. We are talking about a coast of dark sand but with a magnificent, transparent, clean and always calm sea, perfect for engaging in a long and therapeutic swim. It is well equipped with sun beds and umbrellas with typical taverns and bars with live music behind them which in the evening turn into places to stay up late. Ahladi, like other small seaside villages, also offers various opportunities to stay above all studios or villas.

Kini Beach

Kini beach is one of the few that are located in the middle of the Syros Island always on the west side. Beach of the homonymous village, about ten kilometers from the capital Ermoupolis, has a beach of light sand mixed with small pebbles, a blue sea, clean and clear waters with a gently sloping seabed, which is why it is much loved by families with children as well as for the comforts it is able to offer. It is equipped and behind it you can choose from many fish taverns and restaurants. In fact, the village of Kini is perhaps more famous for the quality of the fresh fish it offers rather than its beach. Here too the list of accommodation facilities is long and you can find the accommodation that suits you best. Last but not least on Kini, from here you will enjoy the most beautiful sunset you can see in Syros and for that alone it is worth a visit.
