Getting around Syros

2 minutes to read

Syros island despite being in the district of the Cyclades Islands, the most sought after for a holiday in Greece, is not so subject to tourism. Travelers who like to discover different destinations or those who want to remain calm without missing out on anything come to Syros.

Its territory covers about one hundred square kilometers for a length of 16.

Besides lounging on the beach getting low on vitamin D rather than sculpting muscles with swimming, Syros has interesting things to discover such as the Gray Cave in Grammata beach in the north of the island, a hidden bay where this cave is located with medieval writings where they sheltered during navigation and where sailors wrote their prayers for the Gods asking for protection and blessing for the journey, or take a trip to the Archaeological Museum, the oldest in all of Greece which collects artifacts from the of bronze and remains of other Cycladic sites, and still the Cathedral of St. George in the Ano Syros village above the capital with a purely Cycaldic architecture with white houses and blue windows, built in 1200 and considered the largest Catholic Church in all the nation.

You certainly won't get bored on Syros and it can be a valid alternative to other islands that are much more expensive and above all overcrowded during the summer, or why not just a few days to recharge your batteries.

Getting around Syros is easy, the island is small so you can decide on any means that best suits your personality and desire for adventure.

Car: ideal if you are with small children or don't like feeling the wind in your hair. As always, it is better to book in advance so as to get the best rates.

Scooter: given its size we can say that it is the perfect vehicle! Less expensive than a car and easier to park. The only caution, choose a cylinder capacity over 80 cc. Some typical climbs on the Ermoupoli hill are steep and full of curves.

Public transport: considering that it is the administrative center of the Cyclades Islands, it is always busy, consequently the public circuit is well developed. You will be able to get almost everywhere and where it is not possible, the rent is always reduced to a few days. Come on so plan everything well and enjoy the beautiful Syros.
