Spilia Beach Skopelos

2 minutes to read

The wonderful and uncontaminated Spilia beach, we find it north east of Skopelos about ten minutes from the famous Agios Ioannis chapel sto Kastro known for the romantic wedding scene of the movie Mamma Mia right above an imposing rock in the middle of the sea with overtwo hundred steps to climb to reach the top where in addition to the beautiful church you will also have a crazy view.

A small coast of fine, clear sand mixed with a few pebbles, a sea that goes from turquoise to emerald, crystalline and transparent waters with seabeds that descend slowly for the first few meters from the shore. It is surrounded by rock formations that protect it from the winds like an embrace, dotted with lush and fragrant Mediterranean scrub, an ideal place if you like trekking. Let's say that it is quite isolated and therefore completely wild, there are no comforts, no sunbeds, umbrellas or kiosks for something to eat or drink so if you put it among the things to do in Skopelos, remember to bring everything you need.

For a bit of shade during the hottest hours, know that you won't be able to take shelter under some trees as there are none on the beach, but this can be solved by moving towards the two beautiful caves on the sides where you will find relief when the sun is scorching. A curiosity spilia in Greek means cave which is the reason for its name.

Snorkelling lovers will also be able to have fun at Spilia beach, among its ravines there is lively marine life, so don't forget fins, snorkel, mask and an underwater camera to immortalize the inhabitants of the sea.

Thanks to the waters that lap the beach that are almost always very calm, it is gaining popularity among kayaking lovers but don't worry, you are unlikely to find it super crowded and noisy, Spilia beach is very quiet and perfect for those who love swimming and relaxing. The reason why it is never frequented by mass tourism is because of the modest difficulty in reaching it which is a real deterrentLet's say that the coast also offers other beautiful bays that are obviously more difficult to reach but if you are expert walkers, you will surely be able to find your personal corner of paradise among intact nature and with a sea with sometimes Caribbean scents.

How to get to Spilia Beach

And here we are, as always, with the main information on how to get there. So first of all let's say that it's not impossible, just a bit challenging but by now we've understood that in Greece you have to achieve good things.

First of all it is necessary to reach the area of the Agios Ioannis Church where you will find a car park and you can leave your vehicle. From here a dirt path starts where at a certain point you will have to go right and still following the road, in about twenty minutes you will have arrived at your destination.

The route, in addition to being natural, is also a bit steep so use suitable clothing and above all comfortable shoes to avoid falling and ruining your day. The walk is very pleasant in the midst of nature. With a motorbike you can also get further down than the car park but we always recommend extreme caution.

Without a doubt a stop not to be missed during your holiday in Skopelos for a moment of relaxation and to discover another piece of this wonderful island.
