Stafylos Beach Skopelos

2 minutes to read

Stafilos beach also called Stafylos, we find it in the south-eastern part of the beautiful Skopelos Island in the archipelago of the Sporades Islands. The capital Chora is only four kilometers away.

A beautiful and large bay that protects it from the winds and waves, surrounded by high cliffs covered with conifers and with rock formations with bizarre shapes modeled by atmospheric events, has a sandy coast half a kilometer long and about fifteen meters wide with pebbles and small stones, clean and transparent waters, a sea with turquoise shades, seabeds that descend slowly, perfect for families with children but to which you must still be careful because they are full of shells and sometimes pointed boulders, therefore it would be better to bring rock so as to avoid getting hurt and move freely.

Given the formation of its seabed, Stafilos beach is much appreciated by snorkelers where among its huge boulders that decorate the surface of the sea they can explore the lively fish fauna and flora, so remember if you are passionate about bringing a mask, fins and snorkel. Even diving enthusiasts can have a lot of fun here by discovering the abyss.

Stafylos beach is partly well equipped with comfortable sunbeds, umbrellas, a typical tavern where you can sit and savor the exquisite delicacies of Greek and local cuisine while admiring the Aegean in all its moments (we recommend the sunset which is something exciting) and a bar where you can find quick snacks and something cool to drink. For those who love DIY, a part of the beach is completely free so you can take a walk and look for your corner where you can spread out your towel perhaps in the shade of a beautiful tree which will be almost providential during the hottest hours and enjoy a wonderful day at the beach.

Behind the Stafilo beach, there is the village of the same name which can be reached by a slightly winding and uphill road, which offers not only delightful taverns where you can taste delicious fresh fish but also accommodation solutions ranging from simple rooms for rent to apartments rather than hotels.

Given the beauty of the natural landscape that surrounds the bay and the beach and its services, it is awarded the Blue Flag every year. Its proximity to the capital Skopelos Town also makes it one of the most popular and crowded during the summer the many amenities.

Just ten minutes' walk from the cove is Velanio beach where silence and tranquility are a certainty. It is much loved by naturism for its wild, still uncontaminated environment and for the privacy it offers to its visitors who will be able to enjoy such beauty as in its primordial state.

Curiosity

He owes his name to the Minoan King Stafilos who according to Greek mythology was the son of the God Dionysus and the princess Ariadne, daughter of Minos who landed right on the beach together with his brother Peparithos. Nearby on the promontory at the end of the coast there is in fact an important cave that is very interesting to explore, where the golden sword of Staphylus was found and is now on display at the Archaeological Museum of Athens.

How to get to Stafylos Beach

If you have decided to stay in the capital for your holiday in Skopelos, it is very simple, just take a walk and arrive at the free car park where a picturesque wooden staircase leads down to the beach.

If, on the other hand, you have opted for another part of the island, you have to go southeast following the signs for Skiathos Town, and again if you are without your own transport, a public bus service from the major tourist resorts takes you to the capital. You will have to get off at the stop which is on the road that leads from Skopelos town to the village and port of Glossa second landing place to reach the island and from there take a walk for about half a kilometre.

A stage to be included among the things to see in Skopelos for moments of pure ecstasy with a fantastic sea and all the services within reach of every need.
