Skopelos

How to get to Skopelos

2 minutes to read

Skopelos Island, we find it in the Sporades Archipelago right in the middle between Skiathos and Alonissos. Considered among the five most beautiful islands of Greece, also like its sister, it is covered by lush vegetation with a landscape made of high mountains with dense forests that alternate with deep valleys of vineyards and orchards.

Its origin is very ancient and according to Greek mythology it became the land of Prince Stafylos son of the God Dionisos and Ariadne his wife daughter of the King of Crete Minos.

Usually a holiday in Skopelos is chosen for the tranquility as well as for the wonderful beaches and the many things to visit. White houses adorned with colorful bougainvilleas, flowers at every corner and a sea of amazing colours, this is how Skopelos presents itself in its extreme simplicity where life flows serenely and slowly and people still dedicate themselves to ancient crafts such as fishing and agriculture. Ideal for trekking given the amount of mountain paths where you can merge with Mother Nature and reach panoramic points where you can take the perfect photo.

To see the Chora in the capital with its amphitheater shape above the hill with its labyrinthine mazes, the Monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the Glossa village where time seems to have almost stopped and Agios Ionnis the most visited place and made famous by the movie Mamma Mia where the famous church is located on top of the large rock which has now become an icon for Skopelos. And still get lost among its never crowded beaches where you can enjoy the Aegean and forget about everything.

Skopelos does not have an airport, you have to take a flight + ferry.

Flight: you must necessarily reach either Skiathos or opt for Athens or Thessaloniki.

From Skiathos: direct flights to Skiathos are found in the summer period and in recent years, given the growth in popularity both from Italy and from all over Europe, several can be found. Once you arrive, you will need to board the ferry. Be careful because Skopelos has two ports, Glossa to the northwest and Skopelos Town to the east. Here are the shipping companies that make the route for both ports:

From Athens: flights to Athens by now you will find as many as you want. Once in Athens you need to get to Agios Konstantinos you can choose whether to rent a car or get there by public bus and embark from there. Be careful if you decide to use public transport, from Athens airport you need to reach the Ktel Liosion station and from there take the bus to the port.

Thessaloniki: even for Thessaloniki by now the flights are much more frequent and are also found at very advantageous prices. It is possible to reach Skopelos, but you have to combine a bus route to Volos + ferry.
