Maratha Beach

We find the delightful Maratha beach in the southwestern part of the island of Skiathos, about ten kilometers from the capital Skiathos Town and just five hundred meters from another very coveted coast during a holiday in Skiathos, the beach of Koukounaries.

A beach about two hundred and fifty meters long, very narrow, of soft gold-colored sand, crystal clear and transparent waters, a turquoise and blue sea with gently sloping seabed, perfect for families with children and for those who love to swim. All around like a tender embrace tall and verdant pines that give natural shade during the hottest hours and give the environment a peaceful and ideal atmosphere for a lazy day at the beach.

The Maratha beach is equipped with paid sunbeds and umbrellas (there are only a row so especially during the summer season they fill up quickly so if you want to spend a day or a few hours there, it would be better if you went either early in the morning or in the late afternoon), a bar for something fresh to drink or something quick to eat and a typical panoramic tavern where you can sit, admire the landscape and taste the delicacies of Greek and territorial cuisine. For those who want to completely get away from the crowd and stay in close contact with nature, they can choose their own space in the free part, spread out a towel perhaps near a providential tree to doze off or simply shelter from the sun and spend a very pleasant day based on no stress and beautiful sea. It should be emphasized that there are no toilet facilities on the beach, you have to take a walk for a few minutes and go up the hill to the first hotel.

As far as accommodation is concerned, if you want to stay near the Maratha beach for your holiday in Greece, there are several options ranging from simple apartments to hotels and some resorts complete with all the comforts and activities to do during the day.

There are no water sports to do, but if you are a fan of snorkelling don't forget to bring a mask, fins and snorkel to go and discover the lively marine fauna and flora of this little corner of paradise.

You can decide how to get to Maratha beach by choosing between two options. The first if you are independent and have a car or a scooter, just follow the road keeping for example the capital as a reference point going south on the west coast and check the road signs towards Koukounaries. Upon your arrival, you can leave your vehicle in a convenient parking lot or directly on the road, being careful however to park so as not to hinder traffic.

The second opportunity in case you decide not to rent anything is with the local buses that leave from Skiathos Town in the direction of Maratha. The stop where to get off is number 22 with a small part to do then on foot but really two steps going down a few steps. You can also choose to be dropped off a bit further along the main road where the path is easier.

Maratha beach is a perfect place to enjoy the sea, nature without giving up comfort and for this alone it deserves to be included among the things to see in Skiathos.
