Banana Beach Skiathos

The busiest beach on the Skiathos island where young people love to gather for an evening aperitif or for beach parties based on throttle music until late and where fun is in the first place, at least until couple of years ago when the municipal administration decided to stop the nightlife for obvious reasons of disturbance to the quiet.

But it does not matter, what interests us is to describe the beach as a place to relax, tan and enjoy the gift of Mother Nature. The name is attributed by the shape of the bay which includes two beaches, one smaller and larger divided by a group of rocks. It is located about ten kilometers from Skiathos Town.

In the past it was called Krassas Bay but nowadays it has been changed to Banana Beach. The two beaches have a coast of soft white sand with a clear, transparent and always calm sea Megalo Banana (megalo in Greek means large) the largest part is super equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, a wide choice of water sports, taverns where you can enjoy a good dish of Greek cuisine and fresh fish, beach bar for an exotic cocktail maybe at sunset where the sky is tinged with many colors making everything more magical. Unlike the Mikri Banana (Mikri in Greek means small) it is completely free, intimate and peaceful loved above all by naturists.

The whole area is surrounded by a luxuriant and still uncontaminated vegetation which makes Banana beach unique. In the seventies, Skiathos was still little known to tourists and it was a real secret place where lovers of naturists loved to spend their holidays, living and sleeping on the beach under the starry sky in direct contact with Nature. With mass tourism, however, it has attracted more and more people, forcing naturists to move to the smaller beach, transforming the wild and natural atmosphere of the largest area into a bathing establishment with all the comforts and increasingly crowded.

The best time to enjoy Big Banana Beach is definitely in the morning when everyone is still asleep and the beach remains quiet and peaceful, in the afternoon if you want to keep this trand just move to the Small Banana.

Easy or with your own vehicle which can be a car or a simple scooter, or by boat excursions that leave from Skiathos Town, or again by bus getting off at stop 26 of Koukounaria, take a dirt path and with a ten minute walk you will have arrived.
