Skiathos Beaches

2 minutes to read

Maybe not everyone knows it but the Sporades Archipelago is made up of eleven islands of which only four are inhabited. The most famous of all is Skiathos, the only one to have an airport. To reach the others you have to take a ferry.

Skiathos is the most stateless and the liveliest from all points of view. A fervid night life revolves around, landscapes rich in Mediterranean scrub with pine forests, secular forests, olive groves, woods in harmony with the human being. So could dream beaches be missing where you can spend whole days dedicated to relaxation and vitamin D? Obviously not!

You will be spoiled for choice among 60 coasts, each one different from the other, which will be able to satisfy even the most difficult tastes, so map in hand and get lost in search of the perfect corner for you.

Below, as always, a small trace of the most famous and to be included in the list of things to see in Skiathos:

Koukounaries Beach

One of the most beautiful in all of Skiathos and someone dares even in all of Greece. It is located in the southern part of the island ten kilometers from the capital. It is also recognized with the name of Golden Beach thanks to its extremely fine gravel which takes on a golden breakfast under the sun. A coastline of no less than a kilometer lapped by clean, emerald colored waters with gently sloping seabeds, a favorite destination for families with small children and those who love to swim. Just behind a luxuriant pine forest to be explored through its paths up to the Strofylia lagoon, a protected reserve and refuge for a large amount of fauna and flora. Super popular and super crowded during the summer period, despite the large number of visitors it still manages to maintain a wild and almost intact aspect (in this regard, we invite you to always have the utmost respect for nature). It is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, three taverns where you can give vent to hunger pangs and various water activities to have fun during the day. A section of Koukounaries beach or also called Koukounaria instead is completely free so for DIY lovers it will not be difficult to find a corner perhaps under a pine tree and enjoy so much wonder. Reaching it is simple with your own transport or with the bus that leaves from Skiathos Town. Go there at sunset, it will be a show you will hardly forget.

Abelakia Beach

And here we are at Ampelakia beach also called Ambelakia or Xenia Beach (it is easier to find this last name). We find it southwest of Skiathos, fifteen kilometers from the capital. Natural continuation of Koukounaries beach, it has a fine sandy beach, transparent turquoise blue waters with shallow waters up to twenty meters from the shore, therefore perfect for your children to play safely. The rich vegetation of maritime pines behind it gives an almost surreal atmosphere to the beach as well as being an excellent refuge during the hottest hours of the day. It is partly equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a beach bar with a restaurant attached. One part, on the other hand, is free so you can spread out your beach towel where you feel most inspired. To get there, just follow the road to Koukounaries beach either with your own transport or with a bus that leaves from Skiathos Town. The stop is number 26, take the dirt road, turn left at Koukounaries, and go down the hill. We recommend comfortable shoes for the short walk to the beach.

Banana Beach

Banana beach formerly called Krassas Bay is the liveliest of Skiathos, it is the beach where young people like to gather for an aperitif or for one of the famous beach parties until the first light of dawn in recent limited years however ' as a bit too noisy. A real gift from Mother Nature, a coast with a curved shape (just like a banana) that creates two coasts, big and small Banana divided between them by a rock formation. We find it in a southwesterly direction ten kilometers from Skiathos Town. Soft clear sand, calm and transparent waters, a turquoise sea with a gently sloping seabed, ideal for lovers of long swims and for families with children. The largest part called Megalo Banana is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, many water activities and taverns where you can sit and fill your belly with dishes based on fresh fish and Greek tradition. The younger sister instead Mikri Banana is completely free and a favorite destination for naturists. Thick vegetation embraces the beaches making the landscape like a small Eden. Morning is the best time to enjoy it in peace, then everything gets crowded and rowdy at times. Reaching it is easy both with your own vehicle and with a bus. If you opt for public transport, the stop is number 26, remember this.

Vromolimos Beach

Vromolimos beach is in the southwest of the island right on the tip of the Kalamki promontory not far from the Kolios Town. Protected in a beautiful inlet thanks to its favorable position, it is always sheltered from the winds that periodically blow on the Greek Islands. Green hills behind it and coniferous woods surround it, giving shade in the hottest moments of the day. A long and narrow but seven kilometer long coast that offers two beaches with soft golden sand, clear waters and an emerald sea with a shallow bottom almost a natural swimming pool. Well stocked with sunbeds, umbrellas, a bar for something fresh and a lovely tavern where you can satisfy your hunger pangs that offers local and traditional cuisine. To enjoy yourself there are many activities to do such as beach volleyball, jet skis, windsurfing and many others. Snorkelling enthusiasts will have plenty to enjoy with the lively marine fauna and flora. Also in this case a section is completely free for those who want to remain alone. Being very popular, during the summer it is very busy so go there early in the morning if you want to enjoy its wonderful nature. For a respite you can venture out to discover the small lakes and its peaks covered with rainforests where it will be easy to make an encounter with delicate black swans. It can be reached either with your own vehicle by taking the road that leads to Kolios or by public transport. The stop to get off at is number 13.

Troulos Beach

Troulos beach is nine kilometers southeast of the capital Skiathos Town. In the middle of a large bay that shelters it from the winds, it has a long beach of fine white sand with golden hues, crystal clear waters and a turquoise sea with a bottom that descends slowly. Bordered by pine trees and Mediterranean scrub, it is the ideal place for a day of relaxation where the little ones can play in total safety and the adults enjoy the sun. It is partly equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds while in the center it is totally free. Directly on the beach an ancient tavern that has been present for more than forty years with its home cooking or a beach bar for something lighter and faster. Those who love sports can go kayaking, play paddle or simply snorkel. However, if you feel like taking a stroll, behind the Troulos beach is the village of the same name full of taverns, shops, bakeries, small bars and narrow streets where you can get lost. Thanks to its natural beauty and the quality of services, it is awarded the Blue Flag every year. For a break, you can visit the beautiful 17th century Panagia Eikonistria monastery or take a walk along the paths that wind down to Aselinos beach for example. Just in front of the beach is the islet of Troulonis where the more daring can also get there by swimming. Getting to Troulos beach is child's play, if you are independent follow the signs for Troulos otherwise you can opt for a public bus and again by sea by renting a boat or a taxi boat the choice is yours.

Mandraki Beach

We find Mandraki beach in the northwest wedged in its homonymous and beautiful bay. Wild and intact due to its position which makes it subject to the winds and therefore does not attract many tourists, it is made up of a long coastline of golden sand bathed by a turquoise and emerald sea with clear and clear waters. Actually the bay offers three beaches, Mandraki, Elias beach and Agistros beach practically one after the other. Mandraki beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a bar for something to eat and drink. Very few shaded areas for do-it-yourselfers, only the part close to the cliff for a few hours a day. It too is easy to reach, with your own vehicle just go north and follow the road signs, with the bus instead get off at stop no. 23 and follow the dirt road that passes through a pine forest where at the end you will find signs for each of the beaches.

Elias Beach

Elias beach is part of Mandraki Bay along with two other beautiful coasts. It is located in a northwesterly direction approximately thirteen kilometers from Skiathos Town. A remote area where you can almost take a step back in time thanks to its still so brutally wild and intact nature made of dense prehistoric pine forests. With an exotic flavor, it has a beach of soft light sand, a turquoise sea with shallow waters and generally very clean waters unless there was a storm the night before which tends to wash the seaweed to the shores. Its position, however, unfortunately makes it a victim of strong winds so before venturing there, check the weather conditions for one to go around in circles. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas with a typical tavern for food and something to drink. It should be noted that the right side of the beach is very popular with naturists. Getting to Elias beach is not complicated, it would be better to have your own transport. So head southwest from the main road (be careful, it is full of curves that line the mountain), following the road signs, go past the pine forest where at a certain point you will have to leave the vehicle and continue on foot on the wooden path which will take you there in a few minutes will take you to the beach. If you are on foot instead, take the bus, get off at stop 23, pass the pine forest and head following the signs for Elias beach.

Agistros Beach

And here is the third beach of Mandraki bay, Agistros beach. By now you will also have understood by reading the sisters above that it is located northwest of Skiathos. A coast of golden sand with clear and transparent waters where peace and tranquility reign supreme as few go this far also due to the wind that often blows on this side and in this regard we advise you to check the weather conditions in advance . The seabed drops slowly and is perfect for snorkelers for its lively underwater life. It is partly equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds as well as a snack bar for something to eat and drink. The most extreme parts of the beach are free and much loved by naturists. A wonderful context from a natural point of view with thick vegetation that is still intact and original, ideal for a day of relaxation and a tan. How to reach it? So let's say it's close to Elias beach so the same indications apply with a 45-minute walk from the bus stop if you are not independent, less if you have your own vehicle that you can park after the pine forest and continue on foot for a few minutes.

Aselinos Beach

Aselinos beach is also in the northwest part of the Skiathos island the wildest and still uncontaminated part. The bay that welcomes it is of rock formations, while all around the green mountain of Kounistra covered by spectacular pine forests with trees that almost reach the shore. Its position means that the sea, especially in the afternoon, is always rough with waves so if you are not expert swimmers or have children with you, be very careful. The coast is divided into two parts, the larger one is called Megalo Anselinos, the smaller one is Mikri Anselinos. The larger side Megalo Anselimos is a long expanse of light colored sand mixed with small planks, clean waters and a sea with blue hues with a seabed that slopes immediately. One part is equipped with umbrellas, sunbeds and a large tavern where you can eat something typical and find refreshing drinks. A section (Mikri Anselinos) to the north of the older sister instead completely free where you can put your towel where you feel best and a small but charming tavern to quench your hunger and thirst. No water sports, people come here to enjoy nature and relax. From here, following a path, you can reach Kechria beach and Ligaris beach, while continuing you will arrive at the Monastery of Panagia Eikonistrias. Anselinos beach is part of the excursions offered by the various Skiathos agencies so usually from 13.00 to 15.00 many people arrive and you stop for lunch in the largest tavern. Getting there is the same as for its nearby beaches of Elias and Agistros there are three options. Or by sea with an excursion or by renting a private boat or with a taxi boat, with your own transport or by bus. Get off at stop 18 and follow the dirt road and the signs.

Lalaria Beach

Lalaria beach together with Koukounaries beach, is considered among the most beautiful in Skiathos. It is located in the north east and for this reason it is often windswept so also in this case as for the whole north side of the island, check the weather conditions before coming. A beach of white pebbles mixed with gray pebbles, a sumptuous rock formation that forms a natural arch shaped by the wind and salt, clean and crystalline waters, an access blue sea up to intense blue and a seabed that descends quite quickly. It is not equipped at all here everything is still in the wild, intact and uncontaminated. A beach to see to be included among the things to do in Skiathos for its extraordinary beauty. And here is the reason for its original charm, it can be reached only and exclusively by sea. You can either rent a private boat, or take a taxi boat or for greater convenience, participate in one of the many excursions that are organized by the island's tourist agencies. There are two times, either in the morning from 10.00 to 14.30 or from 15.00 to 19.30 (counting about 45 minutes of navigation). The morning tour is the most crowded as, given its position, Lalaria beach goes into the shade in the afternoon and the colors don't make it like in the sunlight. But look on the bright side of the afternoon trip, you will surely see one of the most beautiful sunsets in Skiathos. Also take advantage with the excursion to go and visit the sea caves of Skopili and Galazia a real work of art of Mother Nature.

Megali Ammos Beach

Megali Ammos beach is the city beach of Skiathos Town. Located in the southeast of the island, it is just a couple of kilometers from the city center and is perfect if one day you don't want to go and discover the natural beauties of Skiathos. A long coast of soft golden sand inside a bay with green hills behind it that protect it from the winds, clear waters, a blue and turquoise sea, seabed that gently slopes down, excellent for families with children to spend a joyful day at the beach . It is very well equipped, there are many lidos offering comfortable sunbeds, umbrellas, water sports for all tastes, while for restaurants you are spoiled for choice among the beach clubs or, taking a stroll, enter the streets of the capital and find a unusual tavern where you can delight your palate with dishes of classic Greek cuisine or modern menus with reinterpretations of classic recipes, or for something quick, an oven or small bars that offer a succulent pita gyros, in short, based on your needs, both economic and based on your desire to do, you will certainly find what is right for you. If, on the other hand, you are super free and don't feel like crowds, a part of the beach is completely free and you can organize yourself there as you are more comfortable. If you are not staying in Skiathos Town to reach Megali Ammos beach, just head towards the capital.

Xanemos Beach

Xanemos beach is located northeast and is certainly the most photographed of the whole island of Skiathos not so much for its natural beauty we say that it is not among the top but for the fact that being very close to the airport tourists come here just to have the thrill of the planes landing and actually passing over their heads with the sensation of being able to almost touch them with one hand. Needless to say, the noise is deafening but luckily short. In a large bay in the Kefalas area, it is a beach of small stones mixed with sand, clean waters, depths that become deep almost immediately and a blue and turquoise sea, all surrounded by a still wild and intact nature. The view of the beautiful Skiathos island right in front is beautiful, which you can also visit in the day with the ferry that connects the islands of the archipelago every day. Unfortunately, its position exposes it to the winds and when the Meltemi blows, it feels right here, so also in this case consult the weather conditions. Xanemos beach is not equipped, on the contrary we recommend rock shoes because of the stones and maybe even an inflatable mattress to lie down on. As for catering, however, a kiosk will be able to give you both food and drinks. Getting there is simple, if you have your own transport just follow the road signs, if you like to walk instead from Skiathos Town passing through a fairly steep hill it takes less than an hour, or by bus which will take you to your destination in ten minutes.

Agia Eleni Beach

Agia Eleni beach is located in the northwest part of Skiathos, twelve kilometers from the capital. A small inlet with soft golden sand, blue sea and clear and clear waters. Behind a thick forest that gives shade in the hottest hours. It owes its name to the graceful church dedicated to the saint. The seabed of the Agia Eleni beach is shallow, therefore perfect and much loved especially by families with small children. It is partly equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas as well as a beach bar and some typical taverns where you can sit, watch the sea and taste typical dishes of traditional Greek cuisine or something more international. If, on the other hand, you want to be in a bit more secluded, a completely free area. During the summer period it is quite crowded especially by young people who meet at aperitif time when it is possible to enjoy one of the most beautiful sunsets in Skiathos. It can be reached easily or with your own vehicle, always following the road signs or by bus from Skiathos Town. The stop is at Koukounaries and then walk through a path for a few minutes. Last chance by sea with an organized excursion.

Kastro Beach

We find Kastro beach in the northernmost area of the Skiathos island, nine kilometers from the city of Skiathos Town. Its importance is given above all by the ancient capital of the island which until 1830 was the stronghold where the population lived permanently. However for a break or just to combine two beautiful places Kastro beach is a valid alternative. Wedged in a marvelous inlet, it is a small coast of small stones, clean waters and a sparkling blue sea with gently sloping seabed suitable for families with children. Around, high cliffs and rocks on the sides where you can enjoy snorkelling. It is still extremely wild here, no comforts, just nature and you can put yourself wherever you like to spend a peaceful day at the beach. The picture of this corner is completed by a typical tavern where you can eat excellent dishes of the local cuisine. To reach Kastro beach it is possible to do so or with your own vehicle following the signs for Agios Konstantinos where at a certain point you will have to leave your vehicle and take a dirt road. Perhaps the most comfortable one is by sea with an organized excursion that will take you directly to the beach without having to walk for about an hour.

Ligaries Beach

Ligaries beach is located northwest of Skiathos, more or less seven kilometers from the capital Skiathos Town. Very subject to the winds given its position and as always we recommend you to look at the weather conditions before going there, when Eolo is asleep, it is a real paradise. A kilometer-long coastline of sand mixed with pebbles, clear waters and a sea that goes from turquoise to emerald with shallow water but which initially has stones and then finds sand so if you have children be careful or wear rock shoes . Around the beach there are low hills covered with thick, very wild vegetation for a day of relaxation in contact with nature. There are some sunbeds and umbrellas, frankly not many, but if you don't find any free, you can still spread your towel where you like best. Just behind, a tavern for something to eat or drink. Do not miss the view from the bench on top of the promontory where you can admire the whole panorama and take the perfect photo. To get there you must necessarily be autonomous, there are no public services that arrive in this area, moreover it would be advisable to have a 4x4 as the road of about eight kilometers is in really bad condition.

Agia Paraskevi Beach

Agia Paraskevi beach also called Platanias beach, is located southwest of Skiathos eight kilometers from the capital. Inside a bay, it has a long beach surrounded by trees that give shade during the hottest moments of the day, golden sand, crystal clear waters and a bright blue sea with a gently sloping seabed, ideal especially for families with children. It is well served with lidos equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, toilets, showers and water sports activities to have fun with friends. To eat or drink you will have the opportunity to choose among the various beach bars directly on the beach, or go to the homonymous village just behind you which offers typical taverns, bakeries, cafes, small bars, ouzeries, shops and everything you need for a quiet day of sea. Also from a housing point of view, the Agia Paraskevi village has an excellent choice between apartments and small hotels. It is very well known so during the summer it is quite crowded but don't worry if you find it too full for your tastes, you can move a little to where there are two other small beaches. The area is also perfect for trekking lovers thanks to its beautiful valley that leads up to the bay of Kerchia. It will not be difficult to have original guests during your day in fact, a colony of wild swans that live in the area now accustomed to human presence often and willingly goes ashore. Reaching the Agia Paraskevi beach is easy, if you have your own vehicle, just put the name on the navigator and follow the road signs to get there. If, on the other hand, you prefer public buses, from Skiathos Town rather than from the main tourist resorts there are rides that lead up to here.

Krifi Ammos Beach

Krifi Ammos beach is located in the southwest area of the island about eight kilometers from the Troulos village. It is called "the hidden beach" as it is protected by two high cliffs that shelter it from the winds. You will find a coast of pebbles mixed with sand, a turquoise sea with deep waters just a few meters from the shore with transparent and crystalline waters. A corner of Eden, little known and hardly taken over by tourists, the locals love it so much that they crowd it especially on weekends. A few sunbeds and an umbrella if you want to be comfortable but just a few since it doesn't have much space available, so if you don't want to spread out your towel it would be better to go there early in the morning. A classic Greek tavern to refresh yourself and try local or traditional delicacies as well as something fresh to drink. Krifi Ammos beach is also the right place for those who love snorkelling, its rock formations are rich in marine life. Getting there is a bit challenging, maybe also for this reason it's not that popular but in any case with a little will it's feasible. Arrive first at Troulos and follow to Agia Eleni beach following the signs. You will reach where the paved road ends and a dirt road begins which continues up to a clearing where you will leave your vehicle. From here a slightly inclined descent with steps carved into the rock (better to have gym shoes and not flip flops), and at the end you will find the beach.

Tzanería Beach

We find Tzaneria beach in a southwesterly direction on the Kalamaki peninsula not far from the Troulos village, more or less seven kilometers from the capital Skiathos Town. It has a 120 meters long beach of coarse golden sand, a blue sea with transparent and clear waters with a backdrop that descends slowly, perfect for those who love swimming and for families with children. Behind it is a thick and luxuriant vegetation of tall pines which gives the place a peaceful and relaxed atmosphere. Tzaneria beach is well organized with sunbeds and umbrellas and offers some leisure activities such as the classic and fun pedal boat as well as a diving center that will take you to discover the underwater world. A delightful tavern to eat something quick or a full meal based on classic Greek and local cuisine and where to find refreshing drinks. If you decide to stay in this part of the island there are several options ranging from simple apartments to small hotels. It is possible to get here in different ways, with your own vehicle heading towards Troulos and then following the road signs, with a public bus from Skiathos Town or with a taxi boat from the capital.

Tsougrias Beach

Meanwhile, let's start by specifying that Tsougrias is a satellite islet of the beautiful Skiathos island. The other two are Tsougraki and Akros but they are completely uninhabited and little frequented unless you have your own boat. But let's talk about Tsougria which is also actually deserted in the sense that no one lives there, but during the summer season it offers two wonderful beaches. The island is a real paradise, completely covered with pine trees and fragrant eucalyptus trees, silky sandy coasts bathed by a sea with shades of blue as far as the eye can see, transparent and spotless waters, a gently sloping seabed, ideal for families with children and those who like to soak for hours. An idyllic landscape with intact and perfect nature, where the wind is never heard and which will give you a magnificent day of sun and relaxation. Tsougraias beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas and a delightful and refined "La Isla" lido that will pamper you with all the comforts. Behind it is a cool pine forest where you can take a break from the sun and perhaps organize a do-it-yourself picnic (always be respectful of nature and don't leave rubbish around!). For a typical tavern where you can taste local and traditional cuisine, you have to cross a small hill by a path and cross the wood where you will also find a second beach and here too in an almost magical context you can end the day in style. To reach Tsougrias beach it is necessary either to have your own boat or to rent one for the day and still participate in one of the excursions organized by the various tourist agencies or take a taxi-boat (€ 10 per person in 2022) because only by sea will be possible to get there. It is about twenty minutes of navigation and the times are usually with departure at 10,11,12 and return at 16.17 or 18.

Vasilias Beach

Vasilias beach, or also called Vassilias, is located in the southern part of Skiathos in the middle of the island about only six kilometers from the city of Skiathos Town among the pine-covered hills where you can enjoy a panorama that will leave you breathless and away from the Kalamaki peninsula. Its name dates back to the Byzantine period when the emperors decided this corner of paradise as their last home. A narrow beach of sand mixed with a few pebbles, clean waters, a blue sea with a gently sloping seabed suitable for families with small children, a vast choice of water sports such as wakeboarding, canoes and water skiing and a delightful tavern to eat and have a drink. There is a large hotel, the Kassandra Bay Hotel which practically occupies a large part of the beach, but don't worry, a stretch to the north of the Small Vasilias Beach is free and you can perhaps spread out your towel in the shade of the generous trees that surround it and enjoy a wonderful day at the beach. Reaching Vassilias beach is simple, either with your own vehicle following the directions and leaving the car or scooter in the large parking lot behind the beach, or with a local bus, the stops are no. 7 or number 8.

Achladies Beach

Achladies beach with its village is located in the south of the island a couple of kilometers from the capital Skiathos Town. Hidden in an inlet that shelters it from the winds among green hills richly covered with vigorous vegetation, it is a strait of soft golden sand, transparent waters and an azure sea that becomes turquoise and sparkling blue towards the open sea with seabeds that gently slope down to be much loved by families with children. It offers many possibilities for recreation such as wind surfing and water skiing for a wonderful day at the beach. On the sides of the beach there are olive and citrus trees that create a relaxed and peaceful atmosphere. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas, a couple of taverns where you can taste fresh fish and traditional Greek dishes and something refreshing to drink. The small village behind offers accommodation opportunities such as apartments or hotels, a couple of supermarkets, a bakery and a bar where you can get in touch with the locals. However, a quiet place, perfect as a base since it is located very close to the capital and not far from another pearl of Skiathos, the beach of Koukounaries. To reach Achladies beach you will have several options, the first as always with your own transport in an easterly direction following the road signs, by sea with a taxi-boat that will give you the opportunity to enjoy the panorama of the coast, or with a bus public from Skiathos Town getting off at stop number 10.

Kolios Beach

Kolios beach is located southwest of the Kalamaki peninsula about six kilometers from Skiathos Town. Wedged in a picturesque crescent-shaped bay and surrounded by providential trees, it is a long beach of fine golden sand, crystal clear waters and a blue sea with a gently sloping seabed, a paradise for families with children. Kolios beach is well equipped with sunbeds, parasols and changing rooms as well as a range of water activities to enjoy to spice up your day. On the beach two typical taverns and a minimarket for those who prefer to be free and independent. In the village behind there are many classic taverns, international restaurants and the village with many accommodation opportunities. Definitely a perfect destination for those who want tranquility and get away from the tourist circuits for days in full harmony with nature without giving up primary comforts, certainly you don't come to Kolio if you also want a nightlife, here you go to bed early and zero distractions. Getting there is simple, either with your own vehicle always following the road signs or with a public bus from Skiathos Town. Your stop will be 2 or 3 pm.

Maratha Beach

Maratha beach is located in the southwest of the island ten kilometers from Skiathos Town and very close (half a kilometer) from the wonderful Koukounaries beach. A coastline of two hundred and fifty metres, narrow, with soft golden sand, clean waters, a turquoise sea with shallow waters, perfect for families with children and for those who love to take long swims. It is surrounded by thick pine vegetation which, in addition to creating an atmosphere of serenity, is a real godsend during the hottest hours. It is well served with umbrellas and sunbeds, a bar and a panoramic tavern where you can enjoy a meal based on local products and traditional dishes. One area, on the other hand, is completely free so you can spread your towel wherever you think best. If you also like the area to stay, Maratha beach offers some apartments, some small hotels and some resorts with all the amenities. Here too fearless swans occasionally peep out among the bathers but be careful they are beautiful animals but also a little aggressive if they feel hunted. To reach the Maratha beach either you have your own vehicle and head towards Koukounaries or with a ride on the public buses. Your stop will be number 22 from which you will then have to take a short walk (about ten minutes) going down the steps towards the sea. Given its small size it tends to fill up quickly, it would be better to go there in the morning so as to find the best places and enjoy the silence and beauty of its nature.
