Ligaries Beach Skiathos

2 minutes to read

The wild Ligaries beach also known as Lygharies beach, we find it in the northwestern part of the Skiathos Island about seven kilometers from its capital.

This part of the coast is subject to the winds that usually blow on the Greek Islands so if you decide to visit it during your holiday in Skiathos, always check the weather conditions first and above all the wind to avoid a wasted journey since when Aeolus is particularly furious it does not allows you to enjoy this little corner of paradise.

Ligaries beach has a coastline of almost a kilometer covered with light sand mixed with pebbles, clean and transparent waters, a turquoise sea and emerald colored seabed with a seabed that for the first few meters from the shore is made up of pebbles and then become sandy and for this reason not very suitable for children as it is dangerous and slippery.

Behind it is surrounded by gentle slopes covered with luxuriant vegetation and still primitive nature, giving the whole area an extremely wild atmosphere where you can spend relaxing hours in close contact with our Mother Earth.

It is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, in reality there aren't many so as always it is better to arrive early to be able to make yourself comfortable and enjoy the sea. Many spaces are completely free so just take a walk, locate the place you like best and spread out your towel.

As for the restaurant, just behind the beach there is a typical Greek tavern where, if you wish, you can find something fresh to drink or eat or sit with your legs under the table and delight your palate with fresh fish dishes and traditional cuisine Greek or local, all with a wonderful sea view.

Do not miss a souvenir photo from above where you will find a bench from where you can admire the wonderful panorama of the majestic Aegean which becomes intense blue framed by the green mountains, a must to do it in Skiathos!

If you want to explore the area a bit, about five kilometers to the south is the beach of Mikros Aselinos another secret treasure of the island, while going north from the beach of Ligaries you come across the small beach of Kechria with its of small stones and the sunbeds in an area covered with grass. A traditional stone tavern will satisfy your hunger pangs...

How to reach Ligaries Beach

Now you will understand why Ligaries beach is still surprisingly intact and not overrun by mass tourism (remember though that in the high season it can be busier than usual).

First of all you have to be independent, there are no public bus rides that come up to here'. It would be better to rent a 4x4 car or a quad as there is a good piece of dirt road to go.

Keeping Skiathos Town as your point of reference, follow the main road north across the island and following the road signs until it ends. From here there are more or less eight kilometers of dirt road which is not very difficult to do but where you must always be very careful especially if you decide to come with a scooter rather than a normal car, remembering that the renters do not respond in case something happens on roads not marked on the map.

In the end we can say that Ligaries beach is perfect for those who want a day of total relaxation where they can relax and not think about anything anymore. Only for this is it to be included among the things to do in Skiathos!
