Skiathos

Skiathos sea caves

2 minutes to read

The stupendous and green Skiathos island, in addition to offering sixty beaches, one more beautiful than the other, delights its visitors with stupendous sea caves which, like hidden treasures, intersect between the high cliffs around the island.

Today we want to tell you about the Skotini Caves and Galazia. We find them not far from another pearl of Skiathos, the Lalaria Beach in the north west part which can only be reached by sea, one of the most photographed and sought after by holidaymakers with its small beach of gray and white pebbles bathed by transparent and of an intense blue with a scenographic natural rock formation in the shape of an arch that gives that particular and unique touch. Here everything is still in its original and wild state, no comforts, just the luck of admiring such an amazing landscape and enjoying one of the most beautiful seas in the world, because yes, the Aegean has its own characteristics and colors that only in Greece can be found.

Not far away, you can discover the two wonderful caves. Skotini Pilia cave also called “Red Cave” has the particularity of having a very low and narrow entrance where only one boat at a time can pass and enter. It has a depth of about twenty meters and inside you can really see very little. However, it remains an experience to do because it is like finding yourself in a submerged world in a sort of air bubble where you can breathe normally while everything around is enveloped in semi-darkness. Obviously not recommended for those with claustrophobia problems, everything is very narrow and above all dark.

The second one is called Galazia Spilia or also "blue cave" and you will understand the reason immediately by yourself. Larger in size than the Skotini Pilia cave, it is a magical place thanks to the play of light that is reflected in the sea and on the rocks, dyeing the waters an iridescent turquoise. The atmosphere inside is magical and you will feel like you are living in one of those films shot in tropical paradises where the colors are brighter than ever and the glare is almost blinding.

Both are considered miracles of Mother Nature and one of the most beautiful places in the Sporades Archipelago. It's easy to understand why during the summer you can find lots of moored boats or organized trips that bring tourists to this part of the Aegean, sometimes resulting in a little crowded but it's definitely worth it. Here too the universe has certainly given its best, giving us this astonishing natural work that seems almost sculpted by skilled divine hands.

How to get to the Blue Caves

It is automatic to think that the only solution is the one by sea with a private boat or by participating in an excursion that the many tourist agencies offer to visitors given its position.

You can also combine it with the Lalaria beach so as to spend an unforgettable day among the beauties of the island. Another stage to absolutely include among the things to do in Skiathos, it would be a great shame to come all the way here and not see them!
