Getting around Skiathos

Skiathos is a small island, covering about 50 square kilometers and just 12 long with an almost rhomboidal shape.

The distances between the two ends are not important so you will not waste too much time just to reach the places you have put in your schedule. There are many things to see and do in Skiathos, a large portion are certainly its wonderful beaches.

There isn't a suitable vehicle to be able to go all around it, you can choose the one that best suits your wallet, rather than your spirit of adventure.

Car: certainly the most comfortable especially if you are a family with small children or if you are lazy. Let's say that in Skiathos, a bit like in our beloved Island of Kos, there is only one road that extends for only twenty kilometres. It's paved and flat so zero driving problems and most importantly the main beaches are just along the way.

Scooter: even if you are not a biker at heart, it is a very suitable vehicle for this small island. Fast, definitely cheaper than a car and without any hassle to find parking. The only thing you will have to take into account is the licence. In Greece unlike other parts of Europe to drive a two-wheeler you need to have the right license. Up to 50 cc a B license is enough, beyond that an A or A1 is required, it does not matter if you have had a car license for many years for motorcycles one of the other two is mandatory.

Public transport: Skiathos island has a very good public service network so if you don't feel like driving, it could be an excellent alternative also from an economic point of view. There are 26 stops that take you almost everywhere, even to the most important beaches. Always consult the timetables and organize your roadmap to discover the area comfortably seated and just waiting for your stop.

Boats: even by sea it is possible to get around the Skiathos island what more could you want?
