White Beach Santorini

White Beach or as called by the locals Lefki Beach, about fifteen kilometers from the capital Fira is certainly one of the best known and visited beaches on the island of Santorini.

We find it in the southern part on the west side and it is a real show of Mother Nature. Its name derives from the white and steep cliffs that embrace it and not from the sand as many mistakenly think, in fact the small-sized coast is made of large white, gray and black gravel stones (on the other hand, being Santorini volcanic it is impossible for it to have beaches totally white). The sea with transparent, clear and turquoise waters, has a shallow seabed for a few meters from the shore and then immediately becomes deep with some rocks that emerge as if by magic from the majestic Aegean. White Beach is much loved and sought after by snorkelers for its beautiful seabed which, in addition to being the natural habitat for many species of fish, hides mysterious caves to be discovered.

White Beach, is located near another famous beach, the Red Beach, two pearls of the island of Santorini. Nowhere else in the world you will find such coasts with its imaginative cliffs modeled by the force of the wind and the sea salt and with a contrast of colors to make you imagine exotic and typically lunar landscapes all in the same place. Between Red Beach and White Beach is the Kampia beach which can be accessed via a dirt path from the Red Beach, beautiful and unusual to see if you are hiking in the area.

The splendid cove is small and especially in the high season months it fills up almost beyond belief because everyone wants to say that they have been there at least once in their life or take a souvenir photo of such a strange and fascinating scenario. The beach is however well equipped with sun beds, umbrellas and a small tavern where you can enjoy Greek cuisine. Speaking of the restaurant, it is common opinion that it is priced a bit higher than other places in Greece but don't forget that you are in Santorini the diamond of Greece. If, on the other hand, you want a little more tranquility (certainly not in July and August), you can move to the north or south side of the beach where it is a free area and choose to put your towel where it inspires you most. If you prefer less confusion as possible, our advice is to get there early in the morning, ok it will be an early riser but at least you can enjoy this jewel totally.

It can only be reached by sea, there is no possibility by land starting from Akrotiri, Red Beach, Kamari or Perissa. It takes from 15 to 20 minutes depending on where you decide to embark and the ticket is made directly on the boat.

An obligatory stop to put among the things to do in Santorini, starting with the journey to reach it until you see the white rocks with bizarre shapes that make this environment unique, inimitable and unmissable!
