Votsalakia Beach Samos

2 minutes to read

We find Votsalakia beach in the southwest part of the Samos Island near the Marathokampos village at the foot of Kerkis Mount.

Actually Votsalakia beach and its village are known as Kampos beach and it is the continuation of two villages next to each other in this beautiful bay. About three kilometers long, it has a coastline of gold-colored sand mixed with a few pebbles, clear and transparent waters, a blue and turquoise sea with depths that descend slowly for the first few meters from the shore, therefore perfect for families with children and for lovers of regenerating swims.

It is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas while most of the beach is completely free so you can choose the area you like best, spread out your towel and enjoy a wonderful day at the beach.

Behind the Votsalakia beach, the village of the same name which offers a wide choice of typical taverns where you can enjoy excellent fresh fish dishes and traditional Greek and local cuisine, bars for something fresh to drink or for quick lunches and light, shops of all kinds and if for your holiday in Samos you decide to have your base here, accommodation solutions such as rooms for rent, apartments and some small family-run hotels.

The atmosphere you breathe in Votsalakia is very calm and friendly, you don't come for the nightlife, there are little bars where you can stay late with a cocktail but nothing more'. This part of Samos is usually chosen for a well-deserved rest after a long and tiring year of work. It is not for nothing that it is the favorite destination for families or couples to spend unforgettable moments of absolute relaxation.

In the center of Votsalakia beach there are rocks that almost seem to divide it in two but in any case given the vastness of the coast there will not be the danger of feeling one on top of the other on the contrary you can have your privacy. The path that leads to the famous Cave of Pigatora starts right here, one of the must-sees on the Samos Island, exactly on the eastern side of Mount Kerkis where the mathematical philosopher apparently hid from the tyrant Politrati before being sent into exile in Italy in Crotone.

For a trip out of town, you can go and visit the Marthokampos village towards the hills, a particular village made up of narrow and cobbled streets where the few inhabitants still live as in past centuries by cultivating olive groves. For a little more movement, however, the village of Ormos Marathokampos is perfect with its port, its taverns and a small pebble beach.

Going west instead you will meet the Psili Ammos beach and the Limnionas beach and then, always if you are an adventure lover, reach the road that leads to Kallithea and finally to Drakei, the latter known as "the end of the world" by virtue of of the fact that here ends the road and the Samos Island.

Curiosity

The name Votsalakia derives from the first person who opened a restaurant in this stretch of coast calling it Votsalakia and it remained for the locals but also in some guides you will find it so this is its identifying name.

How to get to Votsalakia Beach

Reaching Votsalakia is very simple, it is always better to have a rental vehicle and go in a south-westerly direction, perhaps keeping Marthokampos as a reference point and then following the road signs.

A stage to put among the things to see in Samos, will be a visit based on tranquility with a territory to be discovered.
