Potami Beach Samos

The beautiful and popular Potami Beach, we find it in the southwestern part of the green Samos Island, less than five kilometers from the town of Karlovasi also called Karlovassi located right in one of the most fertile and productive areas of the island and closest to Turkey so much so that from the coast it is possible to see and almost touch the Sigacik Bay which is less than two nautical miles away. The capital Vathi is about fifty kilometers to the east.

Potami beach is a long beach that reaches almost eight hundred meters in length with a particular shape that, seen from above, looks like the number 3 as in the middle a thin strip of sand and a rock formation divide it, giving it this curious shape. A shoreline of clear pebbles that, based on the sun, sometimes seem golden, sometimes pink mixed with soft sand, crystal clear and transparent waters, a turquoise-colored sea with bottoms that descend fairly quickly, therefore not really suitable for families with small children.

Behind there are high cliffs and mountains rich in green and thick vegetation that in contrast with the colors of the sea and the beach make this place like a small earthly paradise. Despite being surrounded by high cliffs, the sea is often a bit rough and rough because it is still facing the open sea.

Let's say that Potami beach may sometimes be a bit demanding due to the wind, on the contrary it is a natural amusement park for snorkelers as the bay that hosts it is very lively with fish fauna and flora, therefore, don't forget snorkel, mask, fins and a good underwater camera to immortalize the inhabitants of the Aegean.

Potami beach is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, changing rooms and bathrooms, in short, all the possible comforts for a beautiful and above all relaxing day at the beach. As for the restaurant, there is a nice tavern that offers succulent dishes of the classic Greek and local cuisine based on fresh fish and local products. If you don't want to weigh yourself down, no problem, a small bar for something quick to tease and maybe a good coffee at the end of the meal.

Potami in Greek means "river" and the name of the beach derives from the Potami Kastanias river which passes right in the middle of the shore.

It is very easy if you have your own vehicle and better still the car in this case, the Samos island  is large and has many things to see, follow the main road to Karlovasi and then the road signs that point to the beach. Once you arrive, you can leave your vehicle in the large free parking area behind the beach.
