How to get to Rhodes

2 minutes to read

Rhodes Island is the largest in the entire area of the Dodecanese archipelago. Land of history and legend, it is a favorite destination for families with children for its countless beaches, most of which have soft golden sand bathed by a sea that varies from turquoise to sparkling blue, by young people for its lively nightlife, and by nature lovers who will be able to admire places of infinite beauty still totally intact and uncontaminated.

Its capital Rhodes City is a riot of archaeological sites a real open-air museum with its characteristic old part enclosed by imposing walls and streets with paved pavement and labyrinthine mazes which in the evening arouse a scary something as if a ghost of an old knight could appear at any moment.

The symbol of the island of Rhodes is the rose as evidenced by the ancient coins minted in lost times that represented it. In mythology, however, it is said that the island was born from the union of the God of the Sun Helios and the nymph Rodo from whom it took its name. Not to mention the Colossus of Rhodes one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, a large statue dedicated to Helios on the top of the Acropolis or according to other sources built using the siege tower left by Demetrius during his failed attempt to conquer Rhodes. Today, in place of the Colossus which according to the myth was at the entrance to the port of Mandraki, there are two columns on which stand two states of deer, an animal emblematic of the island.

Covered by forests, mountains, vineyards and bays, Rhodes is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offers its visitors completely different habitats between one area and another without risking boring anyone. Do we want to talk about the stupendous Anthony Quinn Bay of extraordinary beauty, or the mythical town of Lindos in the southwest with its acropolis and the scenic Saint Paul's bay at its feet? And yet of the legendary Knights of St. John who bequeathed the interesting Palace of the Grand Master today a prestigious museum, or the ancient city of Kamiros of the Doric period, in short, we could write pages and pages on things to see in Rhodes, better perhaps if you organize a holiday and see it with your own eyes.

Reaching Rhodes is truly child's play. From all over Europe there are now many flights that take you directly to your destination, in the high season even several times a day and several times a week. As we repeat every time, if taken well in advance you can also find really cheap rates to be able to dedicate part of your budget to discovering this mythical and wonderful island.

Flight: from many Italian cities and also from all over Europe there are several airlines, including low coast ones, that reach Rhodes.

If you want, you can also get to Athens and take an internal flight from there.

Boat: If instead you are sea dogs inside, you could also get there by ferry.

Even from other islands it is possible to reach it by sea here are some ideas:

From Symi, Kos, Kalymnos, Leros, Lipsi, Patmos, Chalki, Tilos, Nisyros

From and to the legendary Kastellorizo (who hasn't seen the film "Mediterranean" at least once in their life).

From Karpathos or Crete.

From Santorini, Milos, Anafi.
