Diakofti Beach Patmos

We find Diakofti beach in the southeast part of the beautiful Patmos island right where there is the narrowest point that measures only two hundred meters. Skala is about seven kilometers to the north while the capital Chora is less than six.

In our opinion, this part of the island is very beautiful above all because it is infinitely peaceful. In our holidays in Patmos, we often came here and believe us, even in August there happened to be maybe four people on the beach.

The Diakofti beach we say that it is not among the most beautiful or characteristic of Patmos, it has a pebble beach of various sizes, clean and transparent waters even if sometimes it happens to find algae on the shore due to the night undertow, a blue sea and a seabed that descends slowly only for the first few metres. Obviously it is not equipped here you are in close contact with nature and that is the beauty of it. At the ends there are rock formations perfect for snorkelers who can have fun discovering the fish flora and fauna, so don't forget your snorkel, fins and mask.

As far as catering is concerned, however, a charming and typical tavern is the only sign of civilization. Overlooking the sea and a cool porch behind it, it offers delicious traditional Greek and local cuisine based on the freshest products and it won't be difficult to stay seated even for hours to eat, drink a fresh tzipouro chatting with the owner and admiring the 'Aegean.

Just behind the Diakofti beach, the old path starts, actually the ancient mule track that will take you with a walk to the wonderful Psili Ammos beach. Remember that if you want to reach it on foot, this is the only way but above all, bring water to hydrate yourself, a hat and put on closed shoes as the path is in the middle of the mountains and completely under the sun.

In the small bay that welcomes the Diakofti beach right in front of the beach there are houses where the few inhabitants of the area live and a small farm where some nice geese with relative oconi take a bath every day reaching the opposite shore . Don't be frightened if this cheerful group arrives while you are blissfully lying in the sun, just don't make sudden movements and you will see that living together will be very pleasant.

The Diakofti area also houses the shipyard of the island of Patmos as the "Karnagio" is called in Greek which serves as storage and maintenance for boats during the winter or if there is any problem.
