Agios Nikolaos Beach Patmos

2 minutes to read

The Agios Nikolaos Beach, we find it in the northwestern part of the wonderful Patmos Island. Chora the capital is about twelve kilometers away while Skala the port is ten kilometers away.

A small uncontaminated and still virgin bay, composed of a small shoreline of gravel and stones of various sizes, clean and transparent waters, a turquoise sea with a seabed that descends slowly for the first few meters and then immediately becomes deep. All around rock formations that are perfect for snorkelers where they can have fun in search of the underwater world and so if you are part of this category, don't forget to bring flippers, mask and snorkel! Tamarisk trees frame the beach to shelter from the sun during the hottest hours. Agios Nikolaos beach is not equipped, everything is in a natural state, you can spread your towel wherever you like and enjoy a magical sunny day. As for the services for food and drinks, just above the coast a Kantina (this is the name in Greece for the caravans that are used as taverns and refreshment points) where you can enjoy very simple dishes of Greek cuisine with products that come directly from surrounding gardens therefore very fresh and above all organic.

The inlet being quite protected when the Greek wind blows, it is very popular with small yachs and boats in general, who find refuge and safety even to spend the night. There is a mysterious belief that goes around the Agios Nikolaos beach, it says that in case of danger when the sea becomes hostile, the Saint protects the boats and shows them the way to reach the bay with a light visible only from the sea.

Its name owes it to the small church dedicated to the saint, one of the oldest on the island.

How to get to Agios Nikolaos Beach

First of all it must be specified that it is necessary to have your own vehicle, be it a car or a scooter. We in the small islands recommend the scooter perhaps of a 125 displacement or more because it is much easier to get around, find parking and above all stop when you want to admire the views and take photographs.

The direction is northwest. You have to get to the Kambos village at the square, turn left and follow the road to Kantina, from there you leave the vehicle and from a dirt road you go down to the beach in two minutes at the most.

For the more fortunate, however, the landing can be done by sea.

A still remote part of the island, with a harsh and simple nature but with a truly unique charm. As always, there is little to explain about these corners of paradise, the best way to appreciate them is to go there in person so, for your holidays in Greece, don't forget to add it to the list of things to see in Patmos.
