How to get around Patmos

2 minutes to read

Patmos island covers an area of 35 square kilometers, and is less than a kilometer wide so even on foot you could easily cross it. A continuous up and down between roads that lead to marvelous beaches and small villages where you can stop and taste Greek specialties in some typical tavern and, if you are luckier, also local ones made with very ancient recipes.

The territory of Patmos is barren and arid during the summer season, Mediterranean scrub everywhere covers the rocks and slopes that characterize the island, endless bushes of wild heather and aromatic plants such as thyme, rosemary and sage that give off a scent in the almost intoxicating air.

And then his castle at the top of the Chora that to get there you literally have to climb the stone steps carved into the mountain, a grind but once you reach the top the panorama is for contemplation. Not to mention the Monastery of the Annunciation with a garden that rivals Eden and a path that leads down to the sea through a centuries-old pine forest, in short, so on and so forth.

Getting around Patmos is extremely easy, the road network is good even if some roads are actually small and asphalted in some way but definitely feasible.

Car: it is always the most comfortable choice especially if you are a family with children, you can bring everything you need with you and even more and it won't be difficult to get around the island. The only drawback is the parking which can sometimes be challenging but only for a matter of spaces.

Scooter: the best way to enjoy Patmos. You will arrive anywhere without having to travel grueling distances. It's always better to take a cylinder capacity greater than 80 cc for a matter of basically comfort, even a 50 cc can be fine but for the climbs you will have a bit of difficulty here is the difference.

Quad: there aren't many dirt roads but if you like the idea why not? Costs are somewhere in between a car and a scooter.

Public transport: let's say that if you want to reach the major seaside resorts it's fine even if the rides are not so frequent, you really need to make an accurate plan of the movements if you rely on the buses. As for the beaches, most of them are not served by local services so the alternative is to get to the town and walk from there. Remember that all the roads are always under the sun because of trees in Patmos very few.

Taxi: the fleet is meager but still being able to accommodate no more than many people, the island is equipped with it, of course instead of waiting a few minutes you may have to wait ten but who cares you are on vacation! The costs vary according to the destinations, certainly it is a higher expense than all the other possibilities of movement.
