Kastraki Beach Naxos

2 minutes to read

The paradisiacal Kastraki beach, we find it in the south west side of the Naxos island about fourteen kilometers from the capiate Chora.

Just after the equally magnificent Sahara beach, it has a coastline about three kilometers long with soft white sand with gentle dunes behind it, a sea with transparent waters and a turquoise color with gently sloping backdrops ideal for families with children or for lovers of long swims.

Throughout its length there are pretty little bays and a rock formation that seems to be magically inspired by the Aegean not far from the beach. All around green trees and rare cedar plants that in addition to giving shade in the sunniest hours, offer a landscape with an exotic flavor.

Wild and unspoiled, Kastraki beach is ideal for a day in complete relaxation and is the emblem of the Greek beach in the imagination of all travelers.

The northern part is the most peaceful area and is completely free so if you have a day here in your program equip yourself with everything you need from sunscreen to a parasol rather than a hat. The southern part instead also called Glyfada is the realm of windsurf lovers because it is more exposed to the winds but when dear Meltemi is quiet here too it is a real place of bliss. Around the Kastraki beach you can find mini markets to take everything you need.

However, some sunbeds and umbrellas can be found in very limited numbers so those who arrive first stay better and there are also typical taverns overlooking the beach where you can delight your taste buds with dishes based on fresh products and the Greek tradition. For kitesurfing, windsurfing and water sports enthusiasts there are some facilities that rent equipment so those who already practice these disciplines can have fun riding the waves and those who have never tried it can try their hand at a new experience.

Our advice is to reach Kastraki beach at sunset, when the sun slowly disappears behind the mountains of the Paros island just in front of the west coast of Naxos and tints the whole landscape with warm colors and a light magic.

How do you get to Kastraki Beach

From the capital, head south to Vivlos village and follow the signs for Kastraki. If you do not have a private vehicle, buses to the beach leave every day from the Chora port. As always, we recommend that you notify the driver where you want to go because sometimes the stops are not made regularly. Check the timetables carefully because according to the season I can change.

We understand that being able to see everything is almost impossible, the beaches of Naxos are really many and all wonderful but if you love wild environments maybe even doing naturalism, for sure the Kastraki beach is for you, a long stretch of sand bathed by a spectacular sea and lots of nature still intact. An opportunity not to be missed and to highlight on things to see in Naxos.
