Agios Prokopios Beach Naxos

2 minutes to read

The Agios Prokopios beach, we find it in the north east part of the Naxos island about six kilometers from the capital Chora.

The bay, awarded every year by the Blue Flag, is one of the most famous on the island and is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece and Europe. A stretch about a kilometer and a half long of coarse gold-colored sand, bathed by transparent waters and a thousand shades of blue up to bright turquoise, with a backdrop that descends gently, therefore suitable for lovers of long swims and families with children.

Given its position, it is almost always sheltered from the winds that usually blow on the Naxos island, thus making Agios Prokopios beach a wonderful natural swimming pool. Harmonious dunes surround the coast that right behind it houses the homonymous village, very famous and super sought after to spend your holidays in Greece on the island, full of typical taverns where you can taste traditional and local cuisine, cafes, bars, places for fun and a wide choice of accommodation ranging from simple studios or apartments to hotels of all categories up to luxury.

Agios Prokopios was once the Naxos port where boats arriving from Turkey docked and where pirates loved to stop, as evidence of this at the end of the beach near the rocks there is an old wreck following a shipwreck.

On the northern part of Agios Prokopios beach there are the remains of an ancient salt pan which was once a source of income for the island which today has turned into a small lake called Kokkini Limni (in Greek it means red lake) for the coloring of the waters where some species of birds such as herons stop before embarking on the long migration to African lands.

Towards the end of the beach, you can visit the Agios Prokopios church which every year on July 8th celebrates the feast dedicated to the Saint with dances, songs and popular traditions organized by the cultural association of Agios Arsenios that will give you the opportunity to get to know the evocative Greek customs and the Naxos island better.

It is well equipped, nothing is missing, several beach bars offer sun beds and umbrellas that cost from 10 to 20 € per day and are spoiled for choice to eat something fast rather than a quiet lunch. Different beach activities are found in Agios Prokopios such as beach volleyball and for sports lovers there are several points where you can rent the equipment to practice winsurf or diving, while for the less daring there is the banana boat. In short, really many opportunities to be able to spend the day with your family or friends.

Those who love DIY and want to stay more peaceful, the northern part of Agios Prokopios beach is completely free. Here you can put your towel and enjoy the wonder of this coast in relaxation and if you love naturism this is the stretch of beach for you.

How to get to Agios Prokopios Beach

The Agios Prokopios beach is located just after the Agios George beach not far from Naxos Town as we said are more or less 6 kilometers, so an alternative way to get there can be a nice bike ride or a pleasant walk, or with your own vehicle from the car to the scooter, and even if you are not organized every day, every half hour from Chora the bus leaves for Agios Prokopios.

We don't want to add anything else so that you don't lose the surprise effect when you go to visit this beautiful corner that must absolutely be included in your list of things to see in Naxos.
