Agios Sostis Beach Mykonos

2 minutes to read

The delightful Agios Sostis beach, is located in the northern part of the Mykonos island about four kilometers from the capital Mykonos Town.

A small cove in the terminal point of the great bay on the east side after Panormos beach. The strip of land that can be seen from the beach may seem like another island but in reality it is always Mykonos and the distance between one part and the other is only two kilometers.

About three hundred meters long and with many plants of wild aromatic herbs with rocky walls on the sides that make the landscape barren, it has a coast of soft, fine sand with a light color, bathed by a turquoise blue sea with clean and crystalline waters. The seabed goes down slowly, ideal for families with children and for those who love long swims. The reefs that surround Agios Sostis beach are also shallow at times and are a paradise for snorkelers for its lively marine life of colorful fish.

In the upper part the beautiful Agios Sostis chapel which gives its name to the beach, plastered with white lime as required by the tradition of the Cyclades Islands which when the sun is just above it reflects an almost dazzling light and the classic red dome.

The Agios Sostis Beach, is a real oasis of peace, here no nightlife, no comfort, no disturbing noises only the sound of the sea and some birds, nothing more. Obviously the beach is not equipped, there are no sunbeds, umbrellas, showers or toilets, everything is free and natural so if you decide to spend a day here, remember to bring your umbrella or something to shelter from the sun and a lot of cream solar.

The only building that is located in this quiet area of the Mykonos island is a pretty tavern which is located right at the entrance of the beach with very small dimensions about a dozen tables and to eat there is usually a queue but don't worry , the managers thought well to put benches to wait and sometimes a glass of fresh wine is served as a welcome. The tavern is highly sought after by tourists, either for the beautiful terrace overlooking the sea and for the cuisine that offers traditional Greek dishes based on always fresh products.

Every now and then some peddlers (obviously abusive) appear on the beach with fresh drinks and something to munch on.From the restaurant, going down the narrow steps, you arrive at a small bay with rocks around it, red brown in color with soft sand and needless to say, it is a fairytale sea.

How to get to Agios Sostis Beach

Being an area not very noble and popular, there are no public transport, you must necessarily have either a car, a scooter or opt for a private taxi. Not even a parking lot exists so you will have to leave your vehicle along the access road and take care to close the mirrors because it is very narrow.

For a day of total relaxation, surrounded by unspoiled nature and why not for a tasty lunch of fresh fish with sea view, the Agios Sostis Beach deserves to be included in the things to do in Mykonos.
