Plathiena Beach Milos

The small but beautiful Plathiena beach, we find it in the northern part of the Milos Island about a couple of kilometers from Plaka the capital where from the great church of Panagia Thalassitra patron saint of sailors that we recommend you visit for its precious icon of the Virgin from the fifteenth century, it is possible to see it in the distance.

Enclosed in a small bay with rock formations dotted with Mediterranean scrub on the sides that protect it from the winds that usually blow in the Cyclades Islands, it has a coastline of about two hundred meters of fine clear sand, crystal clear and clean waters, a sea that passes by 'blue to turquoise with backdrops that slowly descend perfect for families with children where the little ones can have fun and the grown-ups enjoy a still intact and wonderful nature.

A few tamarisk trees give natural shade in the hottest hours and during the summer a small kiosk offers cool drinks and something quick to eat. Plathiena beach is not equipped, no comfort for sunbathing, so you can put your towel wherever you like and remember that if you want to spend the whole day it would be better if you didn't find a place under the trees, bring you or an umbrella or a hat to protect you from the heat.

Given its limited size, especially in summer, it tends to fill up very quickly so our suggestion is to go there early in the morning.

From the Plathiena beach you can see a curious rock in the middle of the sea, if viewed from the coast it may seem like a simple boulder but if seen from the sea it takes on two forms, one of a rabbit and from another angle it looks like a bear. Here too Mother Nature wanted to give a natural sculpture and amaze her visitors. You can also see the uninhabited islets of Akrati Arkadies, Arkoudes and Mantrakia.

From here you can also enjoy a fantastic sunset towards Antimilos with crazy colors with the sun that plunges into the sea as if he too wants to cool off a bit and a light that illuminates the whole valley making it almost magical.

For a break from the beach, you can take the opportunity to visit the surroundings and take a trip to the ports of Fourkovouni and Areti and why not maybe stop for lunch or dinner in one of the typical taverns that offer fresh fish dishes, classic Greek cuisine and also local.

Keeping Plaka as a reference point, take the road that crosses the green valley of olive trees that extends to the sea. It is paved and not too difficult until you come to a dirt road that is easy to walk on, however, which leads directly to the free parking on the beach which is quite large. As we said before, however, be careful because it fills up very quickly.

If you want, you can also reach it from Firopotamos beach, always through a dirt path. When you venture into still remote roads, always pay close attention, drive slowly so as not to damage the vehicles and then find yourself in almost nothingness in difficulty.

A second option to reach Plathiena beach is by sea. You can either rent a small boat independently or take advantage of the sea taxis. The arrival by sea is something spectacular and allows you to see the rabbit-bear rock in all its extraordinary nature.

An obligatory stop to put among the things to see in Milos, to explore the area and spend a day at the beach in a quiet and difficult to forget beach.
