Kastanas Beach Milos

2 minutes to read

The colorful Kastanas Beach is found in the north-eastern part of the beautiful Milos Island, about seven kilometers from the picturesque Pollonia village.

A secluded coast, out of the mass tourist circuit due to the effort it takes to reach it but which ultimately pays off amply for the effort, believe us! A beach covered with coarse sand mixed with many pebbles, rock formations and natural arches that surround it in shades of red, orange to purple thanks to its volcanic origins, transparent and very clean waters, an emerald green sea but with a difficult bottom as full of rocks, so much so that it would be better to have suitable shoes to get in and avoid getting hurt.

Certainly the Kastanas beach is not suitable for those who like to swim in peace, here people come above all to snorkel given the lively marine flora and fauna that offers pleasant and funny encounters with its inhabitants so it is a must to bring snorkel, fins, mask and maybe a nice underwater camera to capture moments of marine life. Pay close attention to hedgehogs, the area is full of them, they are nested everywhere especially near the rocks, their favorite habitat.

It is clear that there are no traces of modernization, everything is in its original and natural state, no sunbeds, umbrellas or a comfortable kiosk where you can find food or drinks, if you decide during your holiday in Milos to spend the day there, keep well to mind that you will have to worry about bringing everything you need to feed yourself or hydrate yourself but above all something to shelter you from the sun because there is no vegetation.

Due to its location, Kastanas beach is highly sought after by lovers of naturism as it guarantees privacy and tranquility. Don't be surprised if the day you decide to go there will be just you or a few adventurous visitors, it is the normal state of this lost corner of paradise.

How to get to Kastanas Beach

It is not as difficult as it seems, certainly challenging but with patience and a spirit of adventure you can get there.

To reach the Kastanas beach it is necessary to be autonomous, better to rent a 4x4 or a quad bike if you intend to visit well hidden and almost secret coasts.

Taking the Pollonia village as a reference, you have to take the main road that goes east just to give you more information the same road that also leads to the Tria Pigadia Beach which remains a little further south until you find some signs road indicating the direction to a dirt path. Follow it all the way and you will be there. As the directions are very limited, we recommend using your GPS to find Kastanas beach to avoid getting lost and ending up in the quarry or fields used for mud storage.

One of the wildest and most picturesque beaches on the east coast of the island, deserves to be included among the things to do in Milos to be able to discover a different and colorful environment in the true sense of the word with the addition of a wonderful sea where you can enjoy a fresh bath and relaxing moments in direct contact with Mother Nature who here too has shown her generosity.
