Achivadolimni Beach Milos

2 minutes to read

The Achivadolimni beach also called by the locals Chivadolimni or Clam Lake, we find it in the southern part of the beautiful Milos Island in the great Adamas Gulf, a town which is about seven kilometers to the north.

The name takes it from the lake (unique among other things in the area) which is located in the western part of the beach and in Greek means "lake of clams" (limni lake - achlivades clams) as it is rich in these small molluscs.

Considered the longest beach in all of Milos, it has a coastline that stretches for kilometers of soft white sand, crystal clear and clean waters, a turquoise sea up to the classic blue of the Aegean Sea with a floor that slopes down flat, therefore perfect. for families with small children.

Its shape is the classic half moon in this case with enormous dimensions and the particularity of Achivadolimni beach is the fact that it is actually the crater of an ancient extinct volcano. Behind it there are high cliffs where in some places there are caves dug by man to repair boats during the winter months. The view on the village of Adamas, on the capital Plaka and on the highest point of the island the Profitis Elias mountain where you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama are just one of the wonders that this beach offers.

Given its location, it is often subject to the Meltemi which sometimes also generates waves one and a half meters high, the Mecca for lovers of kite surfing, windsurfing and all those sports where Aeolus is indispensable. From the hill you can also experience the thrill of paragliding to admire this wonderful area of Milos from above.

Achivadolimni beach is minimally equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and beach bars for something to drink or eat, while most of the beach is completely free and you will really be spoiled for choice where to spread your towel, perhaps close to one of the many tamarisk trees that frame the beach and are a real godsend during the hottest hours. If you opt for DIY, then remember to bring everything you need given the vastness of the beach.

To the west of the coast there is also a small volcanic coral reef to be discovered for snorkelers and a well-organized campsite considered the best of the Cyclades Islands for a stay dedicated to freedom and independence.

Curiosity

According to Greek mythology, Meltemi was born after the assassination of Icarus. His assassins had hidden on the island of Kea where a suffocating heat emanated during the days of Sirius the brightest star in the constellation of Canis Major, which represents Maira, the dog of the unfortunate Icarus. On the advice of the oracle of Delphi consulted about the anomalous and dangerous temperatures, the killers of the son of Daedalus were punished with death and once they were eliminated the fresh wind of the Meltemi began to blow which averted the drought and all the consequences.

How to reach Achivadolimni Beach

For those who are not autonomous, the bus service offers rides from Adamas. At various times of the day, you can arrive at the beach, so make your schedule for the day and choose the moments that best suit your needs.

A second alternative are with a taxi. You can find them everywhere, the only drawback of this solution is the cost, but on the other hand, a private service has to be paid for.

Obviously, if you have a rental vehicle, there are no restrictions, just follow the road south to a factory near Kanava and then continue and at the crossroads go up the cliff and then go down to Achivadolimni beach.

Surprisingly one of the loneliest places on the island to sunbathe, swim and spend a quiet and idle day at the beach. To put on the list of things to see in Milos.
