Getting around in Milos

2 minutes to read

Milos is a small pearl of the Aegean, lost, and only for those who really want to see it since reaching it is not so immediate, you don't get on a flight for two and a half hours and here you are at your destination, you have to conquer it while also enjoying the journey to get there.

An island of a thousand colours, just think of its mines such as the one in the most famous Thiorichia beach west of Milos where sulfur reigns supreme in every sense, or of the precious obsidian quarries exploited since the Neolithic period and still the rocks andesitic with dark colors in short, a riot of colors that make this island so special.

Not to mention the dazzling white of its rocks as in the mythical Sarakiniko beach one of the most visited destinations in Milos where the contrast with the color of the sea creates heavenly effects to say the least. In short, if we have to sum up, we can say that Milos is one of the places to see at least once in a lifetime!

It covers an area of 161 square kilometers with a length of 21 by a width of 14 so we can say small and with short distances. The road network is good, most of the roads are paved and even during the high season there is hardly any traffic.

You can travel around Milos as you see fit, all the solutions are perfect, it just depends on how much you want to invest in it and on your personal tastes

Car: given the presence of so many dirt roads, the ideal would certainly be a 4x4 so as to be able to reach all the destinations as close as possible and with less difficulty. You can also take a normal car but you'll have to be much more careful here's the difference.

Scooter: watchword freedom and wind that caresses you. Two-wheelers are also fine but try to choose an engine capacity of no less than 80 cc sometimes the climbs and descents are steep and with a moped it becomes difficult.

Quad: Milos is the right island for quad biking. You will be able to go anywhere even having fun and reach places with a breathtaking view. Also in this case take a 250 cc.

Buggy: like the quad, it lends itself very well to unpaved roads and is great fun for both adults and children. Negative note, it costs almost if not more than a car and has zero trunk space.

Public transport: we can say that it is a good alternative if you don't want to drive. The public transport network is well articulated and will allow you to reach many places with a small expense. Always consider the timetables with the various destinations in order to allow you to make a correct programming and see as much as possible.

Boat: in Adamas you can find small boats for hire to enjoy the beautiful coast of the Milos island where the wonderful stacks are located, a must do it during your holiday in Greece. The second possibility is to participate in one of the many excursions offered by the island's tourist agencies.

It should also be remembered that from Milos and precisely from Pollonia it is also possible to go and visit the beautiful Kymolos islet always by sea with the traditional Pantofla a sort of barge on which it is also possible to embark your vehicle, not to be missed! You can get there in about twenty minutes and the cost of the ticket, which can be purchased directly at the port, is around €4 per person one way.
