What to do and see in Lesbos

2 minutes to read

Lesvos so called by the Hellenic people is located very close to Turkey and owes its fame to the poetesse Sappho who was born and lived right here for part of her life.

It is the third largest of all the Greek Islands in order of size, covering an area of 1600 square kilometers of pure beauty. Its origins, like all, are volcanic and the beauty of Lesvos is that its morphology changes from area to area due to the various earthquakes it has suffered over the millennia, modifying its shape and giving life to marvelous corners, thus giving its visitors multiple opportunities on how to plan your holidays.

Due to its proximity to the Turkish coasts, in recent years it has become a popular destination for migrants and for this reason it is less and less taken into consideration for a holiday in Greece, making the enormous mistake of missing out on a marvel capable of surprising even the most demanding of visitors.

A mountainous area with centuries-old pine, oak and chestnut forests, olive groves as far as the eye can see, enchanting waterfalls, thermal springs known since ancient times and a rich and explosive nature. Lesvos is located right on one of the main migratory routes and for this reason it is also very popular with birdwatchers, just think that in Kaloni where the famous salt mines are located you can observe specimens of rare birds that stop before embarking on the long journey to Africa or other parts of the world.

But also cute marine animals have chosen Lesvos as their home, in the Skala Cave it will not be difficult to meet the nice monachus seals of the Mediterranean, a protected species as unfortunately endangered.

Being able to describe this exciting island in words is firstly an understatement and secondly impossible, as always one must realize personally therefore, mark it as a destination for your next holidays among the Greek Islands.
