Kalamitsi Beach Lefkada

2 minutes to read

Kalamitsi beach is located about twenty kilometers in the south west direction of the Lefkada island and the village is considered one of the oldest.

Actually Kalamitsi beach offers three beaches, Kavalikefta (also called Kalamitsi), Megali Petra and Avali. The bay of still uncontaminated beauty (and we add heartfelt thanks), has rock formations overlooking the sea that almost seem to have been placed there on purpose, making the scenery unique and breathtaking.

Let's start with Kalamitsi beach. It is a wonderful coast not so large, of fine white sand mixed with pebbles, with rocks both in the water and on the beach, bathed by a crystalline sea with a thousand colors that go from intense blue, to turquoise to deep blue towards the wide and has this very wild aspect. The seabed goes down very quickly so if you are a family with children, pay attention to the little ones. At this point you ask yourself but is Kalamitsi beach equipped? The answer is yes, there are sunbeds and umbrellas and also a kiosk where you can quench your thirst with a fresh drink, have a quick and light snack, or for the more spoiled, have lunch with the typical dishes of Greek and local cuisine. If you can stop for the sunset it's a real show.

Megali Petra Beach, can be reached only with a walk from Kavalikefta, crossing the rocks on the left side (bring your shoes if you have them is a fairly slippery area). It is the largest in the bay and has white gravel mixed with sand with a turquoise sea, high rocks both on the beach and in the water. It is not equipped and it is even more wild than Kalamitsi, so if you decide to spend the day, bring everything you need. Being remote and difficult to reach, it is much loved by naturists. Here too the sunset is enchanting.

Last but not least, there is Avali beach. Also wide with a sandy coast mixed with small white pebbles bathed by a turquoise sea with backdrops that descend quickly. It is not equipped so bring something to shelter from the sun and to lie down. On the promontory at the beginning of the beach, there is the Avali bar which has a splendid terrace overlooking the sea, an excellent location to have an aperitif while admiring the setting sun. Let's say that it is not very popular due to the fact that getting there is a bit difficult for the somewhat winding road, it remains the paradise of those who do not like mass tourism and want to remain more peaceful.

How do you reach Kalamitsi Beach

Simple, follow the main road south from Agios Nikitas in about twenty minutes or north from Vasiliki in about forty minutes to the Kalamitsi village, where you descend through a slightly zigzagging asphalt road and sometimes narrow but still feasible until to get to a large parking lot that is paid (they are about € 5) on one side, while on the other it is free and right in front of you is the magnificent sea of the west coast of the Lefkada island.

Even these three pearls are to be included in the things to see in Lefkada.
