Agios Ioannis Beach Lefkada

2 minutes to read

Agios Ioannis beach in Lefkada is a tongue of white sand and small pebbles that extends for about three kilometers north of the island. It is one of the most visited beaches by those who are in Lefkada for several reasons. First of all, the proximity to the main city, which is just a couple of kilometers away. For the great availability of spaces and services available. For the beauty of its waters, of a vivid blue that slopes towards more transparent stretches. All characteristics that have also determined its recognition of the Blue Flag. And finally, for its vocation for extreme water sports. Especially those related to the presence of wind: windsurfing and kitesurfing. In fact, Agios Ioannis is a real paradise for those who are passionate or want to try these disciplines.

An almost constant presence of wind allows you to find the ideal conditions to practice. The dynamic here is quite consolidated, and allows you to appreciate the beach regardless of what you want to do. During the morning the wind is in fact still very weak, and allows you to enjoy a pleasant swim in these crystalline waters. As the breeze picks up, it can be exploited by neophytes or beginners, who learn thanks to the more modest push of the wind and waves.

Instead, it is after lunch that the right time arrives for the most expert kite and windsurf virtuosos, when the wind reaches its full intensity and makes the practice a real challenge and pure fun.

If you are not used to putting a board under your feet, it is not a problem anyway. You can easily relax on the beach enjoying the show, with kites and stunts taking turns above the waters. Let yourself be lulled by the sound of the waves lying comfortably on sun loungers and protected by umbrellas that can be booked on the beach. Or take a refreshing break, reaching the series of bars and chalets along the beach. And it didn't end there.

The presence of wind has meant that a series of mills were once active here. Even twelve, of which only four remain standing today. Just inside one of these there is a spectacular bar where you can spend some pleasant moments during the day. This area is also known as 'Mili', or mills. It is the most interesting part for kite lovers, thanks to the strength of the wind which is ideal here for maximum fun.

The area of the mills is decidedly suggestive. And it adds a touch of history and romance to Agios Ioannis beach. It is in fact a very popular destination for couples to take some photos together, or simply for a walk surrounded by a picturesque and original scenery.
