Camel Beach Kos

2 minutes to read

Camel Beach is also one of those where we like to give ourselves a few hours of relaxation when possible and especially out of season. It is located in the southern part of the island in the area of Kefalos the southernmost of Kos where many coves offer a wonderful scenery. From the capital Kos Town it is more or less about forty kilometers.

Camel Beach is not really just a beach, let's say a lot to give you a more precise idea that the first piece has the largest main one and on the right side two other smaller but equally fantastic coves. The coast is of soft gold-colored sand mixed with small stones, decidedly cold but crystalline waters, clear and generally quiet with a bright blue color tending to turquoise and backdrops at the beginning of large stone slabs so if you are delicate it is much better to wear some rock shoes. A few meters after the shore, however, there is soft sand in some places.

The part in the middle, the largest, is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas at a cost of about € 10 per day, the second cove that can be reached simply by turning around a group of rocks in the middle of the sea that act as a natural partition and where the water reaches maximum to the basin and the last one is the smallest just after the second one you will find some sun beds and umbrellas but mostly they are free so you can spread your towel wherever you like.

There is no restaurant on the beach, but above the promontory before reaching the sea, there is a nice restaurant with a breathtaking view over the bay where you can enjoy delicious fresh fish dishes and all the specialties of classic Greek cuisine. A "home delivery" style service, however, is provided by the restaurant with a boy who rides up and down the tavern on a motorbike to bring food and drinks to those who prefer to stay comfortably on their deck chairs under the parasol.

Let's say the road that leads to Camel Beach is not exactly one of the best, the main problem is the slope that especially in the last stretch is of considerable difficulty if you are not experienced drivers. However, it can be remedied by leaving the car in the parking lot of the restaurant and walking down with a five-minute walk. For the daredevils and experts it is still possible to arrive by vehicle just before the beach, the parking space is not much, so the rule is that those who arrive first stay better.

Camel Beach is perfect for those who love to snorkel given the numerous rock formations that embrace the beach and where the marine fauna is particularly lively, for those who love to relax in long swims and for those who want a bit of tranquility because, however, even if known not it is hardly ever super crowded apart from the peak season. Certainly much appreciated by those who love nature in its spontaneous and original state.

How to get to Camel Beach

Being in the Gulf of Kefalos, you must necessarily reach the southern part of the island and follow the road signs. Just before arriving at the start of the coastal village, on your left you will find the sign indicating Camel Beach. Follow the slightly winding road and you are there. You can opt either for a private vehicle so as to be independent, or with a bus that every day several times a day arrives here from the major tourist resorts. Always keep an eye on the timetables to avoid nasty surprises.
