Today we want to talk about a small restaurant that we discovered in Kos. Discovered in a manner of speaking, because we have known it for many years but that we have only managed to try lately.

Let's start from the beginning then, Flamos was born first of all as a fish shop in my opinion one of the best in Kos Town, where super fresh fish and a wide choice never fail. Opened about 17 years ago by Niotis who, together with his family, manages everything from the sale to the counter, to the preparation and management of the tables (there are not many) just outside the shop where it is possible to consume the lavish and succulent meal.

Niotis the right dad to make you understand his identity, he takes care of cooking the fish together with two other people, at the counter where the catch available during the day is displayed we find another employee, while his wife and daughter take care of managing the seated customers and do the math (women are known to be always the best in this last thing).

I must say that in the past we had already bought fish from them and every time we were really satisfied with the shopping, but in this case I have to say "damn me" that I never had time to come and eat it directly without all the hassle of cleaning it and cook it.

Perhaps a good thing about this terrible historical period linked to Covid 19 there was and is the fact that we can have more moments to dedicate to ourselves without the stress of having to work 24 hours a day (working in tourism is very demanding even if everyone thinks that you are on vacation since you live on an island but I can assure you that it is not really so ...). I wanted and partly forced to take this "blessing" and I am very happy because it made me discover new places on my island that I want to share with you.

But let's talk about Flamos which is certainly a more interesting topic! So here's how it works: when you arrive at the fish market you choose from the counter which fish to eat and also want how you would like them to be cooked (we always prefer the grill or we are fried at the sea), then you sit down and wait for everything to be ready. Flamos always has a large assortment and sometimes it is even difficult to choose, but one of its strengths is undoubtedly its freshness. Most of the fish comes from the island of Kalymnos which is located right in front of the island of Kos where there are many fish farms but also many fishermen who always supply the fresh and wild raw material. In addition to fish, it offers very tasty salads of the Greek tradition ranging from the simple Greek salad χωριάτικη σαλάτα in the original language (koriatiki salata so you can order it and amaze the waiter), to the red beet salad παντζαροδαλατα (patzarosalata), rather than the salad of cooked herbs χορτα (horta a vegetable very similar to our turnip top), then move on to appetizers based on salted mackerel and seasoned with only olive oil κολιος (kolios'), to fried fish τηγανητά ψάρια (tigakità psaria) , to the octopus χταπόδι (ctapodi) grilled or vinegar up to delicacies such as Fusca φουσκα (fusca similar to a very large mussel enclosed in a shell that looks more like a stone) with aphrodisiac powers according to the Greeks. Then you usually end up with a nice grilled fish like sea bass λαβράκι (lavraki), sea bream τσιπούρα (tzipura) or what the sea offered the night before. Obviously all accompanied by Tzipouro or Ouzo or a simple ice cold beer. The prices are great and fair, nothing over the top for the quality of the food. The service is perfect, courteous, attentive and always ready to give you the best advice.

Do not forget also a very important detail, Flamos also carries out the take-away, just call, order and come and get everything ready, better than that!

Being able to explain in words the good things that can be found at Flamos is really an impossible task, as always you have to try it yourself and I am very sure that before going home you will return once again I will do it even more than once it has become a point of reference.
