Kos

The most beautiful beaches of Kos

2 minutes to read

Kos is my island, where I have chosen to spend most of my time for the past ten years. Many do not like it but on the other hand everyone has their own tastes. I find it instead a "complete" island. It has everything you want, tranquility, fun, good food, alternatives to the beach, the hospital, the airport, in short, all the things really necessary for a quiet life but with an enchanting natural scenery and a surprise every day in your holidays in Greece.

Here are my favorite beaches where when I can I go to relax and cuddle with the waves of the sea.

Camel Beach

Camel Beach is located in the area of Kefalos and to reach it you always take the main road and then descend towards the beach. I must say that the descent is a bit uneasy (at least to me, I'm not a great driver) but nothing so scary. As soon as you take the road to get to the bay, after the first three curves a beautiful panoramic view appears, from the top you can admire the entire inlet and is a great location to take souvenir photos. Just before the coast, a cute tavern where as well as serving as a base for people on the beach (there is a boy with a scooter back and forth to bring you drinks), he offers excellent fresh fish without neglecting the advantage of wonderful view. The beach is of sand and pebbles towards the shore with a backdrop of rock slabs mixed with pebbles (also here little rocks from rock if you are not fakirs). They are actually three bays of different sizes, the first one equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas (€ 8 a day for two sun-beds + umbrella) and it's the largest one, on the rock sides, where you can climb and snorkel, the second one also with some sun loungers and shelter for the sun which can be reached by going around a rock in the middle of the sea (calm water reaches its knees at best, and immediately afterwards another even smaller one, also with a few beds. The sea is fairly cold as soon as you enter, and needless to say transparent and clear.

Agios Fokas

Agios Fokas, is located in the north east of the Kos island on the road leading to the Therma. It is a very quiet beach surrounded by a beautiful and very well-kept garden where nature really gives its best. The coast is small and medium-sized pebbles so remember to bring your shoes if you have delicate feet. The sea is crystal clear and sometimes in a bit cold but just the moment you enter then everything passes very quickly. It is equipped with very comfortable beds, umbrellas and nice poufs where you can relax with a colorful and fresh cocktail. It has a very valid and varied restaurant service (I recommend the platter of cold cuts and cheeses accompanied by fresh grapes and very good dehydrated fruit). Opposite you can almost touch with a finger the Turkish coast and precisely the area of Dacia. The sunbeds are not paid but you have to consume something. It is a much sought after beach so in the high season it is advisable to go early or risk not finding a place.

Mylos Beach Bar

Mylos Beach Bar just as the name says it is not only a beautiful beach always north of Kos but in the west (its own on the tip of the island) but also a famous and popular place that at the time of sunset turns into a beautiful location for admire this wonderful phenomenon and in the evening in place of entertainment often with internationally renowned DJs directly under the starry sky of Kos to dance like crazy until late at night. Equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas and everything you need to drink or eat something, it is much loved especially by young people who often make a full day. Here, too, sunbeds are free and at least one drink is a must. I really like it at the aperitif time and especially when there is a full moon (parties are organized with music in honor of the moon) where the light of the sun illuminates the sea and invites you to do the typical midnight swim.

Lagada Beach

In the area of Kefalos then in the southern part of the Kos island, we find Lagada Beach. A small beach in our opinion a real pearl, quiet with a beach of soft golden sand bathed by a blue and transparent sea. The bottom descends gently but in the first few meters there are small pebbles so we recommend the protective shoes. Two sunbeds and an umbrella cost € 12. Just above the beach along the fantastic white and blue stairs, the kiosk of Antonis and Rena await you with big smiles and an almost unbelievable kindness with quick snacks, fruit salads and fresh drinks. Suitable for families with children and for those who want to relax with the sound of the sea.

Magic Beach

One of my favorites !!! It is located in the area of Kefalos (in Greek means brain) in the southern part of the chameleonic Kos island. A long sandy beach and small pebbles towards the shore with a clear transparent sea and genuinely a little bit cooler than the other parts of the island, but it is only a moment after two seconds you will already be acclimatized. The bottom descends quickly and also has large slabs of rock so I recommend the shoes if you are delicate. The beach is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas . Above the beach, a panoramic restaurant where I recommend a frying of calamari or stuffed vegetables. For walkers, the coast offers at least a couple of kilometers reaching a point much loved by naturist. To reach Magic Beach is very easy, go towards Kefalos from the main road and arrived in the area of the most suggestive coves of Kos (there are one after the other) find all the indications. Descend for about a kilometer from an unpaved but very easy to do road.

Paradise Beach

I decided to insert it anyway even if not one of my favorites, because it deserves anyway. A long beach of soft sand with a blue and transparent sea with a backdrop that gently slopes down much loved by families with children. The area is very fun because it offers lots of games and water sports. For the smallest inflatables near the shore, for the bigger ones, jet skis, bananas, pedal boats and other activities to do. The beach is very well equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas and offers various refreshment points for a fresh drink or to eat something. It is also located in the southern part of the island of Kos in the area of Kefalos and to reach it from the main asphalt road that crosses the whole island and the only one, follow the signs to Paradise Beach. Ample parking for cars and scooters. At the end of the beach, where there is a promontory of rock that seems to dive into the sea, we find the Bubble Beach, very fine sand, crystal clear sea with a bottom that descends slowly with the particularity that small bubbles come out of the bottom that are no more puffs than steam of volcanic origin. I advise you to arm yourself with a mask and if you have a camera because it is a truly unique setting to take in the drawer of memories.

Limnionas Beach

Premise that not everyone likes it because it is very quiet and sometimes the seabed is a bit muddy because the algae that come from the open sea are deposited, but apart from that I find it just a little place where you can enjoy the warm Greek sun and relax (avoid however the weekends where Greek families like to spend the day with various picnics). In the south west part of the Kos island in the area of Kefalos to reach it is very easy, from the only main road if you come from Kos Town and follow the signs. After a couple of kilometers of small hairpin bends that will make you discover the inner beauty of the island, the beach appears. Just above a good restaurant with fresh fish and traditional dishes as well as a magnificent panorama, which also offers beach service. Limnionas Beach is divided in two by a strip of land in the middle, thus creating two beaches, one equipped with a few sunbeds (and thank goodness, so you really remain in peace) the other instead free and more savage. Both are of sand and clear water but the free and not equipped area is surrounded by a rich maritime vegetation ideal point for snorkelling.

Tripiti Beach

Perhaps and fortunately one of the still unknown beaches on Kos because to reach it if you do not stay in the central or southern part of the island a little distant (let's talk about the adjective "distant", bearing in mind that the island of Kos is about 70 km long). To get there you have to follow the signs to Agios Theologos the most extreme point of Kos from there the island ends and on clear days you can even see the island of Astipalea the butterfly-shaped island just to give you an indication , and then take the dirt road that leads to Tripiti. A sandy beach and small pebbles surrounded by rocks and where peace (obviously not in the high season but no if you are lucky), peace and relaxation reign. Equipped with a few sun loungers and umbrellas and always clean thanks to a boy who takes care of the area and who with his legendary fridge bag provides you with fresh drinks, has a clear and transparent sea. A small natural pool formed by some rocks with very low water is ideal for families with very young children.

Cavo Paradiso

According to all the people who have visited Kos it is the most beautiful of all and the name already says it all. One or perhaps the most difficult to reach because it will subject you to a real camel trophy for about twenty minutes on a dirt road (with a cliff for a stretch on one side), when you arrive you will be very happy and it will be worth it !. A technical clarification to be made, in case of breakdown of the car on this road, no renter will pick you up for free as it is not shown on the maps of the island. The beauty of this adventure, however, is the natural spectacle that your eyes will encounter with the changes in the landscape and where you will be able to see the various geological conformations of Kos. The sandy beach from white to pale pink is washed by a sea of intense blue color and high light-colored cliffs rise up behind it. The only flaw is that when it is windy it is not exactly the best because the sea is very rough and the sand slaps that it is a pleasure. It is equipped with a few sunbeds so whoever arrives better before and has a small bar for a cool drink or quick snacks. Wanting for trekking lovers, you can reach on foot with a walk of about half an hour leaving the car in the parking lot of the church of Agios Ioannis. If you decide to do so, I recommend getting yourself a hat, high protection sunscreen and water because you will be under the sun for the whole journey. By car instead always the usual and only road on the island of Kos in the direction of Agios Theologos, arrived at the church of Agios Ionnis take the dirt road on the right where a sign made at best with a piece of wood painted with paint indicates for Cavo Paradiso. Good adventure!

Agios St. Stefanos

The beach of desires. And yes because Agios St. Stefanos besides being a beautiful little bay that looks like a natural pool, where the coast and the seabed are of fine sand and crystal clear and very calm water, has a romantic legend behind. Right in front of the beach in the middle of the sea almost as if by magic, a tiny islet is called Kastri with a beautiful white and blue church where the Greeks particularly love going to marry and popular rumors, they say that if you reach the swimming church goes to ring the bell and while a wish is expressed, the chances are high (obviously excluding winning the lottery it would be too easy). It is equipped with not many sun beds and umbrellas and with a kiosk serving cold drinks and something quick to eat like sandwiches. Once the space was much larger but this year they built a mega luxury resort on the beach that took a piece of the shoreline. As for other cases it is better to go early to find a place. Next to Agios St. Stefanos a beautiful archaeological find of ancient Christian temples decorated with splendid mosaics and one in particular dedicated to the God Apollo. If you want to sit and have lunch instead, you will be spoiled for choice in the nearby village of Kefalos, which you can walk to from the beach with a walk or for the laziest by car. Getting to Agios Sy. Stefanos is very simple, from the main road at some point follow the signs on the left.
