Vananda Beach Karpathos

2 minutes to read

Vananda beach is located in the north-eastern part of the wonderful Karpathos just a couple of kilometers from the Diafani village, the second most important port on the island.

The northern part of the island of Karpathos in our opinion is the most fascinating and decidedly wild, starting from the Diafani village, a small fishing village where time seems to have almost stopped and where to spend a holiday in Greece in the name of nature and of relaxation. Yes, because here there are no large resorts or eco monsters as we usually define them but small family-run hotels such as Dorana Studios where courtesy and desire to interact still exists. The village offers very little, some seafront cafes where you can enjoy a coffee or a cool drink while admiring the Aegean and some excellent fresh fish taverns. Around Diafani, gentle hills with fragrant pine trees and ancient mills, now abandoned, which however give a typically Hellenic atmosphere. You can visit the three churches all with red-tiled domes or for a trip out of town take the boat and reach the super wild island of Saria.

If you decide to visit Vananda beach, do not miss the opportunity also to go to the mythical Olympos village in the mountains rich in history and still intact in its original spirit. And again if you love walking or trekking, this whole area is perfect for discovering glimpses that will remain forever in your heart like the ancient Byzantine pools .

But let's discover Vananda beach. A small bay with rock formations dotted with Mediterranean scrub on the sides that shelter it a little from the wind, because you must be aware that if you have chosen to make your holiday in Karpathos, the island is often beaten by Aeolus given its position geographic. A coast of small stones, transparent and clear waters with a blue sea, turquoise to an intense blue towards the open sea with a seabed that descends quite quickly.

A beach loved in particular by the resident Greeks where they indulge in refreshing swims during the hottest days. Around nothing, no comfort, there are no sunbeds, umbrellas or kiosks where you can find something to drink or eat, you must necessarily bring everything from home.

For those with delicate feet, since the coast and also the seabed is basically small and medium-sized stones, it would be better to use rock shoes. It is true the pebbles are annoying and make you feel almost like a fakir but the clarity of the water is priceless.

Certainly the Vananda beach is not among the most famous of the Karpathos Island in fact it will be very difficult to find gatherings of people looking for the best place, here everything is quiet and in one day you can be with very few other people to share this charming little bay.

Curiosity

Behind the beach a natural source of drinking water dedicated to a person who until the end of his days has protected and preserved this little pearl. To the north a typical Greek church.

How to get to Vananda Beach

Standing.Following the avenue of Diafani towards the north going up between the houses, you arrive at a wood that you have to cross for a while and then find yourself in a panoramic clearing with a wonderful view of the sea and the town. Continuing at a certain point you can see the beach which can be reached through a downhill path.

A different stage in the less known and popular part of the island but which has nothing less than its opposite side. Duty to include it in the list of things to do in Karpathos for a different perspective but with beauty and generous nature.
