Kato Lakos Beach Karpathos

2 minutes to read

A holiday in Karpathos cannot be considered as such if you do not go to visit the Kato Lako beach or Kato Lakkos as it is also called and only when you manage to get there will you understand why.

It is located in the southeastern part of the island between two other jewels, the Achata beach closed by high rock cliffs dotted with thick vegetation with an emerald sea that gives the landscape an idyllic aspect and where snorkelers can have fun discovering of lively fish fauna and flora and the Kyra Panagia beach in the shape of a half moon, with bougainvillea plants and wild oleanders, waters of a thousand shades and sheltered from the wind.

An intact corner of paradise not far from the capital Pigadia but still almost unknown due to the difficulty in reaching it, a primitive bay where the rich vegetation of Mediterranean scrub will inebriate your senses, with a gray and white pebble coast and sand colored sand. gold, transparent and clear waters, an emerald and turquoise sea with a stony bottom and in this regard, if you have delicate feet, we recommend rock shoes which go down quite fast and therefore not suitable for small children. In some places you can also find small sea caves to be explored always with the utmost attention.

Just behind there are pine and tamarisk trees that offer natural shade because it must be emphasized that the Kato Lakkos beach is not organized at all, there are some sunbeds and umbrellas but they are only for visitors who decide to reach the small bay with a boat excursion. If you want something more intimate and secluded, on the north side walking and overtaking rocks, there is a beautiful cove with smaller pebbles and a sea that is always screaming. This is the area preferred by naturists where they can have the right privacy and enjoy the beach in total naturalness.

There are no refreshment points for something to drink or eat so, first of all, take precautions if your intention is to spend a whole day there.

Given its position, it would be better to visit it in the morning as having the mountain behind it, in the afternoon it remains in the shade.

Curiosity

Kato Lakkos beach is also called Yannis Paradise beach so when you ask for information, also remember this name.

How to get to Kato Lakkos Beach

And here comes the fun. 99% of the time, the most beautiful beaches that are still uncontaminated and intact, owe it to the fact that they are rather difficult and sometimes a real nightmare to reach.

Kato Lakos beach is one of them, it is not impossible, but quite challenging. Let's start with the fact that the road is unpaved but really unpaved and you already have to have a 4x4 vehicle, but not only it is also necessary to be a good driver as the road is quite winding.

So in the direction of Kyra Panagia beach, just a little further down the road, there is a crossroads where you have to turn right and begin to descend towards the beach. The conditions are really bad, better to leave the car or the moped when it is still decent and then continue on foot. We are talking about a 10-15 minute walk, it is not a long journey you can 'do and it is certainly safer.

The best way not to get sweaty due to tension and heat is certainly by using the proposal by sea with an organized excursion. From the port of Pigadia look for the boat that proposes this itinerary because not all of them do it.

To be highlighted among the things to see in Karpathos, a not purely tourist stop only for very discovery who want to know the territory thoroughly and accept the challenge to get there.
