The other beaches of Karpathos

2 minutes to read

Karpathos island in recent years has been enjoying considerable success especially for Italian visitors and offers its guests about 100 beaches.

Obviously impossible to see them all unless you decide to settle on the island for at least a month, however even if for a week's holiday you can explore and find beaches that will remain etched in your mind for the wild beauty and colors.

In addition to the best known, we would like to point out the less famous but still very interesting and beautiful ones to visit:

Christou Pigadi Beach

Christou Pigadi beach (the well of Christ), is located in the south west part of the island of Karpathos about fifteen kilometers from Pigadia the capital. The name of the beach derives from the fact that spring water flows from the bowels of the earth from the rocks of the coast. It is actually two beaches, one near the other, of different sizes, one smaller and the other larger, which extend for a few kilometers. They are both sandy, bathed by a blue and crystalline sea with a seabed that slopes gently consequently very suitable for families with children. It is equipped with sun beds and umbrellas and with a kiosk for drinks and food. Reaching it is very easy, the road is paved and just follow the road leading to the airport, turn left and follow the road signs.

Araki Beach

Araki beach is located in the south-western part of the Karpathos island about ten kilometers from the capital Pigadia. It is a paradisiacal beach (paradisiacal for the absolute quiet you will find), from the coast with small stones in this regard we recommend that you bring rock shoes if you have delicate feet, bathed by a transparent emerald sea. The area is sometimes exposed to the wind but it will certainly not be a deterrent to make you decide not to go there. A real jewel of Mother Nature, where a few palm leaf umbrellas and a few sun beds all at around € 10 a day are the only traces of modern civilization. There are no refreshment points so bring everything you need from water to food if you decide to spend some of your time here. The seabed is suitable for snorkelers, for the rocks to be explored and the marine fauna present. How to reach Araki beach is very easy, follow the signs for Arkasa and take a dirt road for almost two hundred meters and you will have arrived in the small Eden.

Vananda Beach

Vananda beach is located in the north east part of Karpathos a few kilometers from the Diafani village. It is certainly not one of the most noble, but it has its own particular charm. A real paradise with a stony shoreline bathed by a clear sea that invites to long swims and to cool off on hot summer days. It is not equipped, here modernity has not yet taken hold, so if you decide to visit it, bring everything you need from water, food, sunscreen, rock shoes if you are delicate with your feet and something to shelter from the sun. It is certainly the ideal place for nature and relaxation lovers. Behind Vananda beach, a natural source of drinking water dedicated to a person who has preserved this wonderful beach until the end of his days. How to reach Vananda beach? From Diafani for about a couple of kilometers from a dirt road or for lovers of walking on foot following the road in half an hour you can easily reach it.

Kao Lakko Beach

Kato Lakko beach is located in the north east of the Kaprathos island between Achata and Kira Panagia beaches. Also with a paradisiacal atmosphere, it is a bay surrounded by Mediterranean scrub with a shoreline of gold-colored sand and small stones, bathed by an emerald-colored sea. Here the silence and beauty of Nature are the masters. Being quite remote, it is not equipped at all, so bring everything you need to spend the day. Reaching the beach of Kato Lakko is not really that easy, that's why it is still unspoiled and extremely natural. You must necessarily have a 4x4 as the road is unpaved along its entire length if you want to reach it by car, or with a non-traction car, leave the vehicle about five hundred meters first and then continue on foot, or l last option by sea with the excursions that are organized. The best time to visit is definitely in the morning, because given the position overlooking the mountain, the sun disappears in the afternon.

Michaliou Kipos Beach

Michaliou Kipos beach is located near Diakoftis beach in the southeast part of the Karpathos island about sixteen kilometers from Pigadia. It is a real gem, a small bay with a coast of fine dark sand bathed by an intensely blue sea with shallow waters. It is a very isolated beach and therefore not equipped. Remember if you decide to explore it, bring everything you need from water to food to something to shelter from the sun. To the side of the beach, beautiful cliffs of tufa and shells frame this small masterpiece of Nature. To reach Mihcaliou Kipos beach, you have to walk a path that ends in a small canyon, cross it and shortly after you will find the fantastic beach.

Psorasis Beach

Psoraris Beach is found in the south west part of the Karpathos island twenty kilometers from the capital Pigadia. We are talking about a beautiful beach with a wild flavor where human contamination is not yet so pressing. Psorasis beach has a long coastline of golden sand bathed by a clear blue sea. Obviously it is not equipped so equip yourself with everything you need for your visit. Psorasis beach is a popular destination for naturists.

Agrilopotamos Beach

Argilopotamos beach is located in the south-west area of the Karpathos island about twenty kilometers from the capital of Pigadia. It is an almost secret beach, with soft light sand, bathed by a blue-toned sea with clear and transparent water. Given the location, the Agriolopotamos beach is often beaten by the wind making it one of the favorite places for windsurfers and kitesurfers. There is a kiosk for something cool to drink and for quick snacks. It is not equipped with umbrellas and sunbeds. How to reach Agriolopotamos Beach is very convenient, from the main road follow the signs for the beach.

Agios Nikolaos Beach

About four kilometers from the picturesque of Spoa village in the north east part of the beautiful Karpathos, we find Agios Nikolaos beach. It is a quiet beach of small white pebbles with a crystalline sea and turquoise color, with some trees to shelter from the warm Karpathos sun. Surrounded by high mountains, it is very sheltered from the winds and therefore ideal for long swims and diving enthusiasts. It is not equipped but behind the village you will find some taverns where you can stock up on drinks and food. A location for lovers of relaxation where you can enjoy a beautiful sea away from noise and confusion. From the beach, there is a boat that, if desired, can take you to other isolated beaches and in total privacy. To reach it is very easy, the road is paved and, from Pigadia the capital is taken to the north east, to the village of Spoa turn down. The view as you reach Agios Nikolaos is wonderful with rich vegetation and a splendid view of the Aegean Sea. Suitable for families with children.
