Platy Gialos Kalymnos

Platis Gialos Beach, we find it in the southwest part of the Kalymnos Island about seven kilometers from the lively capital Pothia and two and a half from the village of Panormos. Just above, always towards the north, the beaches of Kantouni and Linaria.

One of the most beautiful beaches on the island and certainly different from the others because of its long coastline made of volcanic ash sand, therefore with a dark color mixed with a few pebbles of different sizes always of eruptive origin that absorbs light and gives a warm beach , transparent and crystalline waters, an intense blue sea that turns green in flashes and a seabed that descends quite quickly therefore perfect for those who love to swim.

All around, rock formations and reefs that become the perfect pastime for snorkelers who can explore the fish fauna and flora so don't forget your fins, mask and snorkel. Given its position and the cliffs it is quite sheltered from the north winds.

Platis Gialos beach is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, not many so first come first serve. However, there is plenty of free sace and you can choose the place that inspires you most and spread out your towel to enjoy a wonderful sunny day.

As for the restaurant, a typical tavern a few steps from the shore where you will find to drink and eat the dishes of the classic Greek cuisine based on very fresh products, especially fish or recipes of the local tradition. However, near the beach you will also find a mini market and other taverns where you can taste Greek delicacies.

Also for accommodation solutions, the nearby village and the surroundings offer the possibility of staying directly near the beach, you will find some small and medium-sized hotels and rooms for rent.

Just in front of the beach of Platis Gialos, there is the islet of Agios Kyriaki completely deserted but with a small church from which it takes its name.

Besides being a magnificent place that is almost exotic at times, Platis Gialos beach is perhaps one of the places where you can see the best sunset of the whole island of Kalymnos. At sunset, the sea, the sky and the surrounding landscape take on crazy colors that will leave you speechless. Don't miss it, perhaps sitting in the tavern with a good glass of wine in hand.

It is very convenient to reach the beach. If you have a rental vehicle, keep Pothia as a reference point and head northwest following the main road and road signs. Once you arrive, you can leave your car or scooter where you can find it.

If, on the other hand, you are not independent, you can opt for either a taxi that will take you to the beach for a reasonable fee, or a public bus. From the major tourist locations, especially in the summer, there are daily trips at various times. As always, consult the timetables in order to better organize yourself.

A further stop to mark among the things to see in Kalymnos, perhaps taking advantage of going a little higher up and discovering this enchanting island.
