Akti Beach Kalymnos

And here we are at one of the beaches where Alberto and I have wonderful memories, the Atki beach. We find it in the southeastern part of Kalymnos Island about nine kilometers from Pothia and six from the picturesque Vathy fjord.

A small bay with a shoreline of small stones, clean, crystalline and always calm waters so much that it looks like a natural swimming pool, a blue sea with some turquoise shades and a stony bottom that descends quite easily so be careful if you have small children.

Two large tamarisk trees, offer shade in the hottest moments of the day and is equipped with a few sun beds and umbrellas, little stuff but on the other hand the space is what it is since the size of the beach is really small. For something to eat a typical Greek tavern overlooking the sea where you can taste the dishes of local cuisine and classic Greek cuisine.

Here the dominant word is simplicity, there is nothing modern or futuristic, a normal beach with a Greek flavor where everything is still in its natural state and where the locals love to regenerate themselves with a nice bath.

We discovered Akti beach by chance, one day wandering around the island on a motorbike when the super road that connects the south to the north still did not exist, you could only go in one direction zigzagging through the mountains that characterize the wonderful Kalymnos island. At one point while we were admiring so much beauty, we see this beautiful cove below the road and decide to explore it. We had a simple 50cc scooter and no problem to get off, the climb was so hard that I had to walk at least half way because the scooter couldn't do it.

Arriving at the beach we found ourselves with perhaps a maximum of ten people all local and we spread our towel where we found a place (just below the tavern) because all the few sunbeds were already occupied. At one point while I was blissfully sunbathing and almost falling asleep, I felt like a presence above me watching me. I look up and see a nice little goat on top of the tavern table staring at me. Honestly, since I was between sleep wake, at first I got a little scared but then I immediately realized that the pet was just curious and maybe he wanted to make friends. Obviously I immediately took the phone to immortalize her and with my usual presumption in feeling like St. Francis, I told her by posing to take a selfie. Well free to believe it or not she posed and we took a memorable photo. Given her propensity to have her photographed, we nicknamed her "Vanesia" and she was with us all the time we stayed at Akti beach.

When we left we almost regretted leaving her, but she didn't have much trouble socializing with other people as soon as we arrived so 'we left quietly. This, even if it may seem trivial and childish, was a wonderful parenthesis of our holiday in Kalymnos and the memory of Vanesia will carry it forever in our hearts.

t is essential to have your own vehicle, there are no scheduled buses that go this far '. Veterans of our experience, we recommend a scooter at least 150 cc so as not to then have to make the climb on foot which is very steep and exclusively under the sun.

Keep Pothia as a reference point and go east following the main road through the road that goes around the mountains and in about twenty minutes you will see it right below you, take the road that goes down to the sea and you will be there.

If on the other hand, you are in the Myrties area, go north to Arginontas beach, at a certain point turn right and you will meet a wonderful road that climbs the mountains and then crosses a valley full of orchards that also leads to Vathy.

A destination to be included among the things to see in Kalymnos, for a beautiful day of relaxation and enjoy the wonderful territory that this beautiful island is able to offer.
