Kalymnos

How to get to Kalymnos

2 minutes to read

Kalymnos is one of the islands that we love especially for the gastronomic offer. An island just after our beloved Kos where we live, full of heights with breathtaking views, a rich and fertile valley where you can find the best citrus fruits of the whole Dodecanese Archipelago, beautiful beaches with clean sea and from the sparkling blue that can only be found in Greece.

The island is always very active even during the off season, every Sunday in Potia the capital you will see a lot of families and people around who enjoy an aperitif looking for a shy ray of sunshine and then move home or to some excellent tavern ( and there are many) to enjoy a delicious lunch of fresh fish and be all together.

Kalymnos island is famous for its fish, still many are dedicated to fishing and for this reason it is not at all difficult to find excellent products. His fame is also due to the fact that for hundreds of years he has also dedicated himself to the collection of famous sponges all over the world. And finally for the more sporty, Kalymnos is the favorite destination for lovers of free climbing, the Free Climbing World Championship is held here every year, attracting passionate champions and non-champions from all over the world.

There are so many things to see in Kalymnos, and it is perfect for a relaxing and enjoyable holiday in Greece.

It is not difficult to reach it only two ways or by sea or by air.

By sea: first of all you have to land on the Kos island and here there are few problems as there are flights from all over Europe, especially during the summer, even several times a day. From the airport it is essential to reach the Masthicari port which is located in the north on the west coast where boats leave every day, even those where it is possible to embark a vehicle (be careful however when you make the rental to specify that you want to transport the car or the scooter to another island is sometimes not possible). The journey time is approximately 45 minutes. The only inconvenience could be that the times between flight and ferry do not coincide so you will be forced to spend one night and badly go two (round trip) in Kos but it doesn't matter, it will conquer you even for just 24 hours.

Or arrive in Athens and from Piraeus take the ferry to Kalymnos. It takes about 60 minutes.

Flight: decidedly more expensive but feasible if you don't want to "waste time" and always if the times between one flight and another coincide. It is possible to arrive in Athens and here too there is no shortage of routes from all over Europe, and then reach Kalymnos with an internal flight.
