Psathi Beach Ios

2 minutes to read

The beautiful Psathi Beach, we find it on the west side of Ios Island about eighteen kilometers from the capital Chora just after another wonderful coast, the Agia Theodoti beach.

A green valley with its homonymous microscopic village where there are some rooms for rent and some typical taverns, in reality the Psathi beach offers two long beaches divided by a pier where fishermen boats usually dock and present themselves with a mixture mainly of soft golden sand mixed with small pebbles, clean and crystalline waters and a blue sea that fades to an intense blue.

It is partly equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, few if we really have to be honest, but we also consider the fact that the Psathi beach is not very popular and is quite outside the mass tourism circuit, because its position makes it subject to winds from the north east creating magical waves perfect for windsurfing lovers who, on days when Aeolus is particularly angry, crowd it to have fun until exhaustion. As for the restaurant, a seasonal tavern with a beautiful view of the Iraklia Island where you can enjoy fresh fish and local specialties or classic Greek cuisine.

A part of Psathi beach is completely free, here you can choose your seat, spread out your towel and enjoy a relaxing day at the beach.

We can say with certainty that Psathi beach is perfect for those who want relaxation and peace, here only the sound of the sea and a lot of boundless wild and still uncontaminated nature. If you like to walk, you can walk all the way to the end of the small peninsula where you can see the Psathonisi islet about fifty meters from the Ios island, considered an important archaeological site for the remains of a settlement from 3200-2800. Take advantage during your visit to Psathi beach to see the ancient Paleokastro castle of the Byzantine period (8th century) which features a snake-shaped path (being all under the sun bring a hat and water) from where it is possible see the Naxos Ilsland, Paros Island and the panoramic view of the landscape which is really very beautiful, and then finish with the ruins of an ancient temple.

Curiosity

The stretch of road between Agia Theodoti and Pstahi is often invaded by nice goats, so much so that sometimes it happens to have to wait for them all to pass and the reason for their numerous presence is given by the fact that on the right side of the mountain there is a dairy that sells its delicious products to try and why not also to take home to a small shop near the port open from 9.30 to 14.30. Another detail, according to the inhabitants of the Psathi area, the beach is also one of the destinations chosen by the turtles to lay their eggs.

How to reach Psathi Beach

If you decide for your holiday in Ios to be independent and therefore rent a vehicle, it's very simple. Keeping the island port as a reference point, follow the main road Epar.Od. Iou-Ormou Iou direction east and in about half an hour you can get there.

For those who are not motorized, from the port of Yalos and the Chora, there are daily trips with public buses and like every time we invite you to check the timetables to be able to organize yourself better.

A splendid scenery between sand and rocky landscape that gives a peaceful corner to spend a sunny day and deserves to be included among the things to see in Ios.
