Megali Ammos Beach Eubea

2 minutes to read

The particular Megali Ammos Beach, we find it in the southern part on the west side of the beautiful Evia Island not far from the town of Marmari, a village right on the sea overlooking the Southern Gulf.

A typical seaside town once a fishing village which with the tourist development is becoming more and more a popular destination for a holiday in Evia. In the shape of an amphitheater, it has very ancient origins as the port of Marmari was known for the trade of stones that were extracted in the area. Today it looks like a modern country, with different accommodation opportunities ranging from simple rental houses to small and medium-sized hotels, a wide choice of typical restaurants and taverns and many many wonderful beaches.

But let's come to our Megali Ammos beach. Also called Great Sand Beach it is a small beach of light sand with a strange shape and which changes continuously according to the direction of the wind and the waves. It is much loved by kitesurfing or windsurfing sportsmen as its position is perennially beaten by the wind which sometimes creates spectacular waves where surfers can give the best of themselves. The sea is an intense turquoise blue and its waters are clean and transparent with a bottom that drops very quickly.

Definitely not a beach suitable for families with children or for those who want a quiet sunny day, you come to Megali Ammos beach or if you are a lover of water sports where the wind is the main element and the strong sea currents generate fun ripples of the sea or just for a visit because in any case the naturalistic context is very beautiful to admire.

Obviously, only soft sand is not equipped here, not even a tree for a bit of shade but on the other hand, as we mentioned above, it is certainly not the perfect beach to relax and be pampered by the warm rays of the Hellenic sun.

However, there is always Marmari about a couple of kilometers away in case you manage to go there in a day when Aeolus is asleep and therefore does not disturb the slow passing of the hours, where you will be spoiled for choice to taste local delicacies and classic cuisine. Greek.

Evia being very close to Athens, is very popular with Greeks, it will not be at all difficult to meet more Hellenes than foreigners on the ferry that leaves from Rafina to the island and which in about an hour will take you to the port of Marmari.

How to get to Megali Ammos Beach

The direction is southwest making either the coastal road rather than the hinterland where you will be able to see and enjoy the beauty of Evia which is not only made up of idyllic beaches. Follow the signs for Marmari and after passing the town after about two and a half kilometers you will meet a road that becomes a dirt road, it is not difficult to do but always be very careful and you will have arrived.

An excellent opportunity to see a different beach, beautiful in its particularity and to go deeper and deeper into this multifaceted island. To be noted among the things to see in Evia.
