Chiliadou Beach Eubea

2 minutes to read

The wild and unspoiled Chiliadou Beach or also called Hiliadou can be found on the east side of the beautiful Eubea in about half of the islandA succession of coves one more beautiful than the other in a wide bay made up of high cliffs covered with lush vegetation, sea caves to be explored in short, a real paradise on earth.

The beach of Chiliadou, takes its name from the small Byzantine church whose meaning is "thousandth" as according to legend and tradition it was the thousandth church wanted by the empress Theodora wife of the emperor Justinian I, which is located near the coast. It is made of sand mixed with some pebbles, crystal clear and transparent waters, a sea of crazy colors that fade from blue to green, with seabed that descend very quickly for this reason quite dangerous if you are not good swimmers.

An idyllic setting, once a base for pirates and considered among the most beautiful natural beaches in all of Europe, the Hiliadou beach located right at the foot of Mount Dirfi presents itself with various rocks that as if by magic seem to emerge timidly from the sea dividing the whole coast in smaller beaches. Plane trees, chestnut ferns grow freely everywhere especially near the small river which is on the east side and flows into the sea.

Its position often exposes it to the whims of Aeolus, so if you can look at the weather conditions before going there to avoid a day of free sand slaps.

Needless to say, no sunbeds or umbrellas are equipped but on the other hand some local tavern for something refreshing to drink or typical to eat based on fresh products and local recipes handed down from mother to daughter. Chiliadou beach is a favorite destination for lovers of naturists, discovered by a hippy community about forty years ago, and still remained a sort of protected area dedicated to those who love to stay in contact with nature as in the origins.

Despite the ban, camping enthusiasts gather at Hiliadou beach every year and on weekends to pitch their tents and enjoy this corner of Eden. In the southernmost part just after a large rock, there is a strip of land where nudists perennially stationed.

Absolutely not to be missed is the "Blue Cave" reachable only and exclusively by sea by swimming for a good ten minutes (we recommend you only if you are trained and good but good swimmers). A beautiful cave to explore with fin and mask and maybe even an underwater camera to immoratalize this spectacle of Mother Nature.

However, there are many tunnels to discover such as the lively seabed rich in fish flora and fauna and for sure you will not have time to get bored. For climbing fans, the fabulous cliffs that surround the coast like a tender embrace will be a considerable challenge to be faced until reaching corners with an indescribable view. Finally, for trekking lovers there is the whole wooded area to be explored which offers more or less difficult paths all to be covered admiring the extraordinary landscape of this part of Eubea still not so well known and unexplored perhaps starting or arriving from Lamari or from Stroponon gorge.

How to get to Chialiadou Beach

It can be reached easily by car, heading east. If you keep the capital Chalcis as a reference point you will have to go to the opposite side by cutting the island and in an hour's drive you will have arrived. The way to go is Epar.Od. Artakis-Kimis.

This beautiful island never ceases to amaze, and Haliadou beach is one of the must-see destinations in Evia.
