Lipsi island is a beautiful and small island north of the Dodecanese where time seems to have stopped and where the inhabitants have not the slightest intention of changing the rhythms of their lives.
It is much loved by the Italians in fact it will not be a surprise to hear your language spoken everywhere as many people have decided to take their home on this island for those who only for the holidays, who instead just to change their lives.
In our visit to Lipsi, we had the pleasure of getting to know a place called Ianello which, besides being a precious reference point for any information and anything else, has a beautiful farm that I recommend you visit.
The Ianello's Farm, is located just above the quarry where the story tells the story of the first families who arrived in Lipsi who then generated the current population. From Lindou beach, follow the road towards Platis Gialos, at the first intersection turn right and at about 500 meters you will find the Farm which is indicated with a small sign, strictly home made.
Ianello a good giant, he made this simple place, a fantastic meeting point for the panorama it offers (in the evening you can see the whole island lit up and if there is a full moon even better), and to spend your time, weave cute rope baskets of various sizes that you can use for anything you can think of. Ianello also produces salt by taking water directly from the sea and processing it as it once was, putting it in the sun to dry (we took it and it is very good). On his property he also has lots of aromatic plants that grow naturally to buy and take home to cook. Ianello, will surely offer you a glass of good ouzo and if you happen at lunch time it could also be enjoyed in a classic Greek bbq.
The beauty of this place, according to me and Alberto, is the disarming simplicity of this unusual farm, where, even if you are a perfect stranger, it takes two minutes to feel at home.
