One of the most beautiful and fun things we have witnessed in our wanderings around the Greek  islands, is definitely the Panagiria.

But what is a PANAGIRIA? For us, a unique experience and if you happen to seize it.

These are collective rituals that are held in connection with religious festivals, such as the celebration of a Saint or other religious festivals with deep pagan roots. The island's community reaffirms its cultural identity through music and dance to the bitter end, accompanied by banquets based on local specialties and wines in abundance.

Usually the festivities are held outside the Church from morning until late at night and the most famous is on Ikaria  island on August 15th.
