In Greece, all the churches in honor of the Prophet Elias are built on the highest point of the city and the reason why they are built in these places is due to their proximity to the sky.
Legend has it that Elias, in the beginning was a sailor and that tired of the sea life that required so much effort and numerous risks, he decided to go down to the mainland and find a place where no one knew what the sea was. He decided to set off towards the mountain with an oar on his shoulder. He asked all the people he met if they knew what it was that he wore and whenever they answered "an oar", he was still climbing up. Elias finally stopped only when passers by simply replied "a piece of wood" so he was sure that nobody knew what the sea was.
Another legend tells that Elias wanted to replace Zeus the King of the Gods master of thunder, wind and lightning because he wanted to have complete control over atmospheric agents.
Even here the truth will never be known but it does not matter, myths and legends are always so fascinating!
