How to get to Elafonisos

Elafonissos also called in Italian Cervi the island that is not there ...

A masterpiece of Mother Nature, an island that once seen never again you will want to go elsewhere and like a siren it calls you and calls and calls always bewitching you a little more each time until you become completely addicted.

A small piece of land, the two dimensions are almost ridiculous, just twenty square kilometers southeast of the enchanting Peloponnese in front of the city of Neapoli.

An island with a sea perhaps among the most beautiful in Greece, few beaches but of incredible charm with soft clear sand and sinuous dunes behind which with every breath of wind change shape making the landscape different every time. Elafonissos where the delicate sea lilies bloom every year framing and making the beaches elegant, where the caretta caretta turtles swim free and reproduce without any danger, where life still has a real flavor made of simple and genuine things.

Elafonissos the most exotic of the Greek Islands transformed into a peninsula due to a violent earthquake that forcefully detached it from the continent, creating this last lost paradise.

You have to really want to reach Elafonissos, it is not a short and simple journey, indeed it is long but it will take you through places that are not yet super known where everything is still as it was at the origins.

So only one way is possible since an airport lacks the shadow or jokingly we can say that there is no space to do it!.

Firstly, to reach the Hellenic land here you have two ways either by sea or by flight.

By flight: you can choose whether to arrive in Kalamata in the Peloponnese or in Athens.

From Kalamata: it is necessary to rent a car, there is no public transport that leads to Pounta or rather there could also be but you would have to make I don't know how many changes and you would lose a lot of precious time to use instead to relax on the soft beaches of Elfonissos. From Kalamata follow all the road in the direction of Neapolis to arrive in Pounta where to reach the island you will have to embark on the ferry which runs approximately every hour in the summer and where you can also bring your car.

From Athens: flight to Athens, you can find many even more times a week from many Italian airports perhaps at very affordable rates. From Athens airport you will therefore also have to rent a car in this case and go in the direction of Pounta, perhaps passing through the wonderful Monemvasia where we advise you to stop for one night. From Monemvasia always head south to Pounta. From here you embark on the ferry also with the car and in ten minutes you arrive in Eden, Elafonissos.

By Sea: there is also a possibility by sea that is less used usually unless for your holiday in Greece you have decided to spend it on the  Kithira island, another pearl outside the Italian mass tourism but much loved by the Germans. From Kithira, there are boats that regularly arrive at Neapolis, from there reach Pounta and take the ferry to Elafonissos and vice versa.

From Italy instead you will have to get to Patras and from there head towards Pounta where you can take the second ferry to Elafonissos and that's it!
