Getting around in Crete

2 minutes to read

A unique island with a well-defined identity and which has absolutely no desire to conform to the other beautiful Greek Islands.

Here everything is personal, from the food, to the language to the traditions and you will certainly feel the strong call of Greece but with a particular and unique atmosphere.

Crete Island separates the western part from the eastern part but it is all a discovery made of fertile valleys, mysterious and frightening gorges, mountains that hide postcard villages all surrounded by the Aegean and the Mediterranean to the north and the Libyan Sea to the south.

As for the choice of vehicle, it always depends on what type of holiday in Crete you would like to have. If you are adventurous and want to see as much as possible and this also involves covering long distances, the best means of transport is undoubtedly the car. We recommend having it brought directly to the airport so you will save money on transfers and you will already be free to move as you always want if you don't have an evening arrival and your base is close to the airport with the consequence of driving for a short distance.

You can always opt for a comfortable transfer without any fuss to find the way upon your arrival and then have the vehicle arrive directly at the structure the next morning.

In this regard, if you need to write to us at info@meraviglioseisolegreche.com we will be happy to offer you our offers with local charterers with whom we have been working for many years now.

If, on the other hand, you have chosen to take a quiet holiday in Greece where your priorities will only be having to rent sunbeds and umbrellas, without going around (and it would be a great shame believe us), you can also prefer a two-wheeled vehicle and endorse that that offers the area you will have chosen. Always remember that the driving license rules in Greece are different from those in Italy even if you have had a B license for several years, to drive a moped you need to have an A or A1 license for displacements over 80 cc while the AM for displacements from 50 to 80 cc.

Public transport: the public service network is managed by Ktel and we can say that it is quite good. In the northern part certainly much more efficient since it is the most touristic area of Crete, but if you want to explore the south it is also feasible but it will sometimes be necessary to make changes. Always pay close attention to the timetables and destinations in order to be able to better organize yourself and optimize the times for your out-of-town trips.

Another thing to keep in mind are the times. The lines generally finish at 11.00 pm and until 6.00 am everything is stopped.

Taxi: even the taxi service is very well organized in Crete, the only sore point are the costs which, depending on the distances, become very important, so much so that sometimes it is better to rent a car even just for a day.
