Corfu'

Port Timoni and its double bay Corfù

2 minutes to read

One of the most beautiful beaches of Corfù can only be Porto Timoni. A real marvel of mother nature, which seems to have almost come out of the mind of a designer. Also referred to as Double Bay, this beach has the particularity of being double! A spit of land separates the two bays of Porto Timoni. One faces the open sea, the other instead towards the coasts of the island of Corfu. All around, a soft hilly landscape full of shrubs and trees typical of the Mediterranean maquis. Which intersperse the transparent blue of the waters with their bright green. A true natural paradise, which those who love the sea and nature certainly cannot miss.

A particularity and beauty of this place is also the diversity of colors and sensations that the two different beaches offer. Overlooking different stretches of sea, there are more intense colors and slightly colder waters on one side, and higher temperatures and greater transparency on the other. A spectacle both to see it while diving, and to notice, from a distance, the contrast between the two coasts. In short, you will have understood that Porto Timoni is one of those magical places that has no equal in the world.

Porto Timoni: where it is and how to get there

All very nice, but where is Porto Timoni? We are in the western part of Corfù, about twenty kilometers north of Paleokastritsa. From Corfù Town, on the other hand, there are 35 kilometres, which can be covered in approximately one hour by car, taxi or bus. Being an uncontaminated place, where there are no refreshment services and activities, it can only be reached on foot or by boat.

For those who prefer to arrive by sea, there is the possibility of being comfortably accompanied by one of the many boats that leave from the nearby Agios Georgios beach. If, on the other hand, you have decided to rent a car, then you will have to head towards the romantic village that you meet just before Porto Timoni. Let's talk about Afionas, with its small stone houses and narrow cobbled streets. A truly unique and peaceful place. Here you will have the opportunity to leave your car in the village car park, and then proceed on foot towards the beach.

The walk is not uncomfortable, but in any case it requires comfortable trainers, as these are still dirt paths. In about half an hour's walk you reach the double bay. Considering the heat of the summer season, and the lack of shelter from the sun, it is always better to leave at cooler times, and in any case with lotion, a hat and water. Also because you will not be able to buy it on the spot, as there are no services of any kind.

Arriving early also has another significant advantage. Or win a comfortable place on one of the two beaches. Being very small and extremely pleasant, you can understand that they are very coveted by those who are on the island.

In reality, the more adventurous can try to reach another small beach, lying on the opposite side of the bay which turns towards the open sea. It can be reached by continuing along the path and climbing up the hill. A climb that is not too comfortable, therefore only suitable for those who feel like struggling on slightly steep terrain. Alternatively, the Agios Stylianos chapel can be reached, again on foot, by taking the first part of the same path, to then enter the heart of the verdant hill instead. It is a chapel built inside a cave. It is said to have been commissioned by a shepherd to preserve the relics of a saint found nearby.
