Corfù Beaches

2 minutes to read

Corfu island also called Kerkyra is part of the Ionian Islands and is located just off the coast of Epirus between Greece and Albania.

Given its proximity to Italy, it is one of the most popular for a holiday in Greece especially by young people who, for the legendary "high school trip" every summer, arrive in fleets for a week to keep among their best memories. Even the northern European population is very present in Corfu, so much so that in the summer some villages become real ghettos where they like to meet and spend unforgettable days and nights.

Corfu is very green and its climate is mild almost all year round. You will find endless beaches of fine sand and gravel, wonderful coves hidden by cliffs, all surrounded by a crystal clear sea with a thousand shades of blue.

Traces of the past are still very present on the island and have contributed to creating a mix of cultures that characterizes it and makes it unique. Corfu as well as being the mecca of entertainment for the youngest is also a perfect place for a family holiday where you can enjoy hours under the warm rays of the sun or by discovering its amazing nature among castles, monasteries and enchanted woods.

We give you a trace of the most beautiful beaches to visit so you can make a travel itinerary and make the most of the time during your stay.

Northern part

Paleokastritsa Beach

Paleokastritsa beach, we find it in the north-western part of the Corfu island in the homonymous village just below the monastery in a large bay that offers many other coasts. The whole area is very popular and sought after for a holiday in the Ionian Islands in Corfu so much that you will find all the necessary comforts. But now let's talk about it Paleokastritsa beach. It has a small and narrow beach of sand mixed with gravel, transparent, crystalline and let's face it a little cold waters (they are said to be the cleanest on the island), a turquoise and emerald sea with shallow waters, excellent for families with children. The landscape that surrounds it is rich in vegetation and imposing rock formations that hide beautiful coves and caves to be explored by snorkelling or diving so don't forget your fins and mask. Other activities can also be done on the Paleokastritsa beach such as the classic pedal boat or rent a canoe and go to discover the coast. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while as far as the restaurant is concerned, you will only have to choose where to sit to taste the local delicacies based on very fresh fish. Given its notoriety, in the summer it is super crowded so to enjoy it in peace it would be better to reach it early in the morning also to be able to take the best seats. A parking lot is right in front of the shore so it's very convenient to leave your vehicle. For excursions to the caves and other small corners of paradise, you can opt for an organized visit or take a taxi boat that will take you everywhere and allow you to admire the wonderful view of the Lakones village called "the balcony of the Ionian".

Paradise Beach

Paradise Beach called Chomi by the locals, is in the Paleokastritsa area northwest of the verdant Corfu island about twenty-five kilometers from its capital. The name has never been so apt, a real earthly paradise reachable only by sea and perhaps also for this reason it has remained uncontaminated and in its original state. A coast of small white pebbles bathed by transparent and clean waters, a sea with iridescent colors on shades of intense turquoise and all around enormous cliffs of light-colored rocks with peaks rich in luxuriant Mediterranean scrub vegetation, a true work of art of Mother Nature. Do not miss the mysterious caves hidden in the ravines of the cliffs that will make you feel almost like pirates looking for a hidden treasure. A small lido with a few sunbeds and umbrellas which of course are occupied in less than no time given the quantity, the alternative is to have your own umbrella or spread out a towel and put on a hat to protect yourself from the sun. As for food and water, you will have to bring your own. Legend has it that 'Ulysses landed here' after one of his shipwrecks.

Agios Stefanos Beach

Agios Stefanos beach together with its homonymous village, one of the first fishing villages of the whole island, can be found to the north on the west coast about forty-five kilometers from the capital. A perfect beach for families with children due to its wide beach and soft sand with the seabed descending slowly where children can play in total safety. Its position shelters it from the winds and a small river flows right in the center of the coast. Unfortunately, its waters are never clear and transparent due to the clay on the depths, but it is still pleasant for a fresh, regenerating bath. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while to eat or drink something behind you you will have a choice between typical taverns, bars or mini markets if you are a DIY fan. From Agios Stefanos beach it is also possible to make a beautiful excursion to the Diapondine Islands of Othoni, Erikousa and Mathraki.

Agios Georgios Beach

Agios Georgios beach is also located in the northwest of the Corfu island not to be confused with the homonymous which is in the south near  Santa Barbara beach. With its beautiful village with Venetian architecture and its labyrinthine mazes, Agios Georgios beach is enclosed in a bay that covers five kilometers of lush vegetation, just the journey to get there is a real pleasure for the eyes. A beach of golden sand mixed with pebbles, clear and transparent waters but a little cold, with a seabed that slopes down flat, perfect for families with children. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and two taverns overlooking the sea where you can fill your bellies with local delicacies and classic Greek cuisine. The area is also a great place for snorkelers, the lively fish flora and fauna as well as the mysterious caves are one of the reasons that attract so many visitors during the summer season. You can also try your hand at activities such as windsurfing rather than diving. On the way back, stop at Afionas village, the view is breathtaking.

Liapades Beach

Liapades beach is in the beautiful Paleokastritsa area in the northwest part of Corfu. A small beach gathered in a bay made up of large-grain sand mixed with pebbles, clean crystalline waters, an intense blue sea with very deep waters, a kind of natural pool where you can cool off with a nice swim. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas for one part while a section is completely free so you can decide independently where to plant your parasol. All around high white cliffs covered with rich vegetation that give the landscape a magical flavor. Near Liapades beach, there are other beautiful coves that can only be reached by sea and can be seen with taxi boats that will take you to discover these little lost paradises. Given its conformation, it is perfect for snorkelling and diving lovers who can have fun searching for the lively underwater world. The village of the same name behind it offers typical taverns, restaurants and cafés almost hidden in its labyrinthine alleys. It can be reached easily, the only precaution is to keep left just before the town and follow the signs for the beach. Just after a steep descent you arrive on the coast where you can leave your vehicle (be careful, space is limited so the rule of first come, first served is in force).

Canal D'Amour

One of the most visited places in Corfu the romantic Canal d'Amour, we find it in the northwest of the beautiful Corfu island less than a couple of kilometers from the Sidari village. A succession of small bays and hidden caves, a natural amusement playground for snorkelling and diving lovers where you can spend unforgettable hours. The beach is particular and very fascinating from many points of view, first of all the legend that surrounds it. It is said that if the couples manage to swim across the narrow channel, they will get married soon while for those in search of love, swimming alone for this stretch of sea in a short time they will find their better half. The tiny coast of the Canal d'Amour has golden sand mixed with stones but its beauty is given by the yellowish rock formations covered with fragrant Mediterranean scrub that surround it, sheltering it from the winds and hiding mysterious cavities. The waters are clear and transparent while the sea is a sparkling cobalt blue like an open-air postcard. It is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas but above all remember that during the summer period it is full of people so it would be better to go there early in the morning and then head towards the other small beaches that are located in the surrounding area. You can reach it on foot if you are in Sidari or with your own vehicle or finally with public buses that connect the capital to the village.

Porto Timoni Beach

Porto Timoni beach is perhaps the most photographed beach on the island due to its natural beauty and shape. It is also in the northwest part of Corfu near the picturesque Afitonas village. With an almost exotic flavor, Porto Timoni beach is found above a small peninsula and is made up of two opposite coves, one on the Agios Georgios village, the other towards the Matharaki island. Coasts of small pebbles and rocks both surrounded by imposing hills covered with lush green vegetation, clear and crystalline waters, a sea that fades from blue to turquoise to deep blue with depths that immediately descend forcefully. Do not miss a beautiful sea cave that is very deep and therefore suitable only for expert swimmers, all to be explored, remembering that the water temperature is a little cold. There are no facilities on both beaches so if during your holiday in Corfu you decide to spend the whole day there, be careful to bring everything you need. Porto Timoni can be reached in two ways, the simplest is by sea, the more demanding but which we think will give you the most satisfaction is on foot along a path for about a kilometer among still uncontaminated and primitive nature. In this regard it is necessary to have closed and suitable shoes as the route is in the middle between bushes and large stones.

Barbati Beach

Let's move now always to the north but on the east side where we meet Barbati beach. With its homonymous and lively village, it is located on the slopes of Mount Pantokrator where the landscape is something phenomenal especially from the Venetian fortress facing Albania and mainland Greece and thanks also to its jagged coast that offers enchanting bays. A sandy beach mixed with white pebbles, clean and transparent waters, a blue and turquoise sea with stony bottoms that descend immediately after just three meters from the shore so if you have children be careful. Behind the Barbati beach there is a precious green area full of olive trees where you can take refuge during the hottest hours. It is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a wide choice of activities such as towed donuts or parachutes while, as far as catering is concerned, there are two beach bars directly on the beach but if you want a typical tavern just go to the village and there you will only be spoiled for choice. Snorkelers will be able to discover the underwater world already ten meters from the shore and make a nice encounter with one of the particular black or purple fish that live on the bottom of the sea bass. Barbati beach for its uncontaminated nature is awarded the Blue Flag every year.

Avlaki Beach

Avlaki beach is near Kassiopi village in the northern part of Corfu on the eastern side. Wedged in a lovely uncontaminated bay, it has a beach of small pebbles, warm, crystalline and clear waters and a blue sea with a gently sloping seabed, excellent for families with children. During the afternoon a light breeze usually rises, a godsend especially on the hottest days. It is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, toilets, changing rooms and some typical taverns where you can put your legs under the table while admiring the sea and enjoying the local specialties and classic Greek cuisine. Perfect for snorkelers who can have fun looking for the lively fish fauna and flora made up of starfish, crabs and many other nice inhabitants. It is not very popular, more frequented by the locals and believe us, always follow the locals they know the best places. Every year it is awarded the Blue Flag for its services and the almost obsessive cleanliness of its territory.

Kerasia Beach

We find Kerasia beach in the north-eastern part of Corfu at the end of the road that leads to the Kassiopi village. A stupendous bay surrounded by gentle hills which shelter it from the winds, rich in verdant vegetation which gives an almost exotic atmosphere to the environment. Right in front of the Albanian coast which can be clearly seen and not even that far since they are separated by only a couple of kilometers as the crow flies from the sea, is made up of small white pebbles, clean and transparent waters, a sea emerald color near the shore which then fades into all shades of blue up to the darker color towards the open sea, with seabeds that descend slowly, perfect for families with children and lovers of long swims. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a couple of typical taverns where you can taste Greek and local cuisine. It is considered by many visitors to be one of the most beautiful both from a naturalistic point of view and for services and above all because it is possible to spend a beautiful day at the beach in peace and far from the noise. It can be reached by following the signs towards Kassiopi village and just before that, turn right towards Agios Sfefanoi Sinion until you reach the end.

Imerolias Beach

Imerolias beach is also part of the Kassiopi area near the town of Sidari, also in the northeastern part of the Corfu island. A coast of sand mixed with flat and white pebbles, clear and crystalline waters, an intense blue sea, calm and with shallow waters very suitable for families with children where the little ones can play until they drop in total safety and the adults can enjoy lots of bounty of Mother Nature. But be careful because all this until August, in the month of September the winds start to rise and generate dangerous waves. Imerolias beach surrounded by a hill dotted with trees is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas while for restaurants behind it there is a wide choice of traditional taverns, bars, cafes and shops where you can find the perfect souvenir. If you want to get away from the people a bit, there are flat rocks at the ends where you can spread out your towel and enjoy a relaxing swim. Despite its proximity to one of the best served and sought-after villages for a holiday in Corfu, it is always quite quiet (obviously a little less during the high season) and ideal for a wonderful day out.

Kalami Beach

Kalami beach in the northern part of Corfu on the east coast is also called the "Black Pearl" due to the unusual shadow of its seabed that can be seen especially when illuminated by the sun given by the underground springs that come from the hills behind. We find it near Gimari village and it has a large horseshoe-shaped coastline of flat white pebbles, surrounded by majestic mountains full of lush forests and many olive trees, clean and clear waters, a turquoise sea with sloping down suitable for families with children and for those who love to swim. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, many water sports and activities to do together with friends or family while for catering there are several taverns, bars and places to eat or drink something. It was once frequented only by English tourists but today everyone can come and enjoy this particular corner of Corfu where peace and tranquility reign. Almost every year it is awarded the Blue Flag.

Bataria Beach

Bataria beach is located in the area of Kassiopi village with Mount Pantokrator behind it and green hills of olive trees, vineyards and citrus groves in the north-eastern area of Corfu. A small beach wedged into a limited bay with a shore of small white and shiny pebbles so much so that they almost look like crystals, rough and flat rocks where you can spread out your towel, transparent and crystalline waters, an iridescent turquoise sea with a rocky seabed, therefore not very easy (it would be better to have rock shoes to enter) but which as a whole offers a wonderful corner of the island. Although it is equipped with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, it is still a wild place with breathtaking views of the mountains of nearby Albania. If you are hungry or thirsty, there are no kiosks or tavernas just a fresh fruit truck, so either you decide to bring everything with you or you will have to go to Kassiopi. Bataria beach is perfect for snorkelling, don't forget your fins and mask to have fun discovering the underwater world. It is very popular so much that in the high season it would be better to get there early in the morning if you want to stay comfortable and find parasols and deck chairs. An excellent place to stay in contact with nature and enjoy a wonderful sunny day.

Dasia Beach

Dassia beach with its homonymous village is one of the most popular centers and chosen above all by young people for the multitude of night clubs present. In the north-eastern part of Corfu, about twelve kilometers from its capital, it has a long and narrow coastline made of golden sand mixed with small pebbles, clear and warm waters, a clear blue and turquoise sea with shallow waters ideal for families with children. Its name means forest and it owes it to its luxuriant vegetation that includes the whole area made up of olive and citrus trees, as well as large trees that reach the beach giving natural shade during the hottest hours. It is very well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and fun beach bars. Behind the very tourist village and where you can find all the modern comforts from restaurants to typical taverns, mini markets, clubs, bars, cafes, shops and many accommodation opportunities suitable for all budgets. Every year it is awarded the Blue Flag for the quality of its services and the beauty of the environment.

Ipsos Beach

We can say that Ipsos beach is the most frequented by Italians and is located in the north-eastern part of Corfu, about fifteen kilometers from the capital Corfu Town. Its lively and well-organized town is a very popular destination for young travelers for endless parties that are organized during the summer. In a crescent-shaped bay surrounded by green hills of citrus and olive trees, Ipsos beach is long and narrow with sand mixed with pebbles, clean and transparent waters, a sea with a sandy bottom that slopes gently perfect for those who love swimming and families with children. Every year it is awarded the Blue Flag for the quality of services and the environment. It is well equipped with several beach bars offering sunbeds, umbrellas, food, drinks and a large number of water sports where you can enjoy new disciplines and challenge old or new friends or discover the marine world with unforgettable dives. A curiosity its name means "height" due to the fact of its position suspended as if by magic on the hills overlooking the sea. By yourself you will have understood that during the high season it is very full so if you want a relaxing day, the beach of Ispos will certainly not be for you.

Nissaki Beach

Nissaki beach is always found in the north east of Corfu island in the middle between Kassiopi and Barbati villages. Hidden in a small bay that protects it from the winds, it has a sandy beach surrounded by rocks shaped by atmospheric events, clear and pure waters, a turquoise sea that tends towards blue towards the open sea from a shallow seabed therefore very suitable if you have children small with you and for those who love to swim. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a notable choice of typical taverns offering fresh fish dishes from the local tradition and classic Greek cuisine. The sunset seen from Nissaki beach is a wonderful and extremely romantic sight. It is rarely crowded even in the hottest periods, making it perfect for a quiet day at the beach without giving up comfort and respectable nature. Snorkelling and diving enthusiasts will find the area very interesting for discovering the abyss.

Myrtiotissa Beach

Let's go back to the west side in this case but to the south where you meet Myrtiotissa beach. Its name takes it from the beautiful monastery just above the beach and is considered unique and also secret since few people manage to reach it and know it. Protected by a high cliff dotted with wild herbs and which protect it from the winds, it is of golden sand, clean and crystalline waters with a blue sea. Myrtiotissa beach is the official beach for naturism lovers who have been frequenting it since the 60s and it still remains so today. People come here for a day of total relaxation dedicated only to long swims, to get a tan and to enjoy its still uncontaminated nature. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while for something to drink or eat there is a small kiosk which also has excellent fresh fruit and delicious honey. If, on the other hand, you prefer to do it yourself, one part is completely free and you can place yourself where you feel most inspired. Reaching it is not difficult, head for the road that leads to Glyfada, at the crossroads keep right for the Monastery of the Virgin of Mirtiotissa where you will meet a tree with a wooden arrow pointing to the beach. Leave the car and in a hundred meters on foot you will have arrived.

Glyfada Beach

On the west side in the middle of Corfu island near the mountainPelekas village is Glyfada beach. Considered one of the most beautiful and sought after, it is also called "the Golden Coast of Corfu" for its naturalistic beauty. Behind Glyfada beach there are high cliffs full of thick vegetation, scenic rocks that plunge into the sea, picturesque bays and breathtaking views. Its coast is of soft golden sand, transparent and clear waters, a turquoise sea with clayey bottoms that gently slope down, excellent for families with children. The whole area including the beach is also very popular with young people for the legendary parties that are organized during the summer season. The northern part is definitely the most exploited where there are beach bars with sunbeds, umbrellas, typical taverns, clubs and bars. The southern part, on the other hand, is more rocky and deep, ideal for snorkelling or diving enthusiasts. When the wind blows strong, high waves form which attract surfing enthusiasts. Every year it is awarded with the Blue Flag.

Halikounas Beach

Halikounas beach is found between the sea and the Korission lake in the southwest part of Corfu. It should be emphasized that the area is certainly the least verdant of the island, indeed it almost seems more like a desert thanks to a landscape that alternates between a forest and a lagoon with sand dunes behind it, however, all in an environment that is still uncontaminated and intact. Halikounas beach is the longest in Corfu and is made of large grained golden sand, crystal clear and clean waters, a blue sea which is however always very wavy as the area is not at all protected from the winds, in fact it is a favorite destination for sports kitesurfing and windsurfing. The landscape is really very wild, it looks like a small Eden where you can spend quiet days and sometimes even in solitude. It is not equipped at all, if you decide to spend a few hours there you will have to bring everything with you or as far as catering is concerned, settle for a couple of kiosks that have something quick to eat and drink. Every year it is awarded the Blue Flag for the uniqueness and perfect conservation of nature.

Krouzeri Beach

Koruzeri beach is located about twenty-five kilometers north of the capital Corfu Town on the northwest side. A dream landscape with large hills dotted with thick vegetation, a long beach of flat white pebbles mixed with gold-colored sand, transparent, clear and incredibly clean waters, a bright turquoise sea with shallow waters for the first few meters of the shore . Every year it is rewarded with the Blue Flag of the European Union for the protection of the territory and its waters. It is equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas while for catering there are some taverns where you can taste the delicacies of local and traditional Greek cuisine. Sunset from Krouzeri beach is an event of rare beauty. Perfect for those who want a holiday in Corfu characterized by tranquility and luxuriant nature that is still intact.

Perama Beach

We find Perama beach in the center of the Corfu island on the east coast less than ten minutes by car from the capital Corfu Town. Surrounded by rolling green hills that shelter it from the winds like guardians, it has a mainly sandy coast mixed with a few pebbles, a clear blue sea with transparent waters perfect for snorkelers who will be able to discover the lively and varied marine fauna and flora. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, some taverns and bars where you can find something to eat and to cool off during the day. If you want to remain aloof and even more relaxed, one section is completely free so you can settle where you like best. It can also be reached on foot from the capital through a beautiful path among the hills surrounded by nature. Perama beach is excellent for those who want the sea and relaxation to recharge their batteries.

Messonghi Beach

Messonghi beach is one of the least contaminated in all of Corfu. It is located in the southern part on the east coast near one of the oldest villages on the island. An environment rich in vegetation with its promontory of olive groves and Mediterranean scrub. A long and narrow expanse of golden sand mixed with small gravel especially on the shore, clear and crystalline waters, a blue and turquoise sea with a gently sloping seabed, ideal for families with children and swimming lovers. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, many water sports to do while as regards catering, behind it there are several taverns, restaurants, bars, cafes and mini markets. For those who prefer to do it yourself, an area of Messonghi beach is free so you can spread your towel where you feel most inspired. It is highly sought after by families and by those who want to stay away from the frenzy.

Benitses Beach

Benitses beach and its homonymous and lively village is located about twelve kilometers from Corfu Town in the southeast of the island. A long sandy beach mixed with pebbles with clean and clear waters, a blue and turquoise sea with a seabed that slopes down so much that during the holidays it is much sought after by families with children. It is equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas, many sports and activities to do during the day, rent a boat and go to discover the wonderful coves that follow one another along the coast and finally, for the little ones, a fun water park with inflatables. To quench the peckishness of hunger and thirst, you will only be spoiled for choice among typical taverns, restaurants, bars, beach bars, cafes, bakeries and so on and so forth. For the quality of its services and nature, it is awarded the Blue Flag every year.
