Capo Drastis Corfù

2 minutes to read

If you want to take home a spectacular photo from your Corfu holiday, then you should pay a visit to Cape Drastis. A spit of land in the extreme northwest of the island that stretches out towards the sea. Lashed by the waves and winds, which are intense and frequent in these parts, it has been shaped, almost sculpted, to offer a natural spectacle of dazzling beauty. Lord Byron himself, the famous English poet and great traveller, compared the fascination of Cape Drastis to the famous white cliffs of Dover.

In fact, the conformation of the coast has allowed the creation of large vertical walls of white rock overlooking the sea. A line that continues between inlets, promontories and islets, in which the light color of the rock mixes with the blue of the sea and the green of the treetops. A postcard that is there just to be admired.

How to reach Cape Drastis

In order to enjoy this panorama in the best way, you have to take a short road that starts from the nearby Peroulades village. It is about half a kilometer, therefore passable both by car and on foot. At the end of this path you will arrive at a parking lot where you can leave your car and look towards Cape Drastis.

After the usual photos, you will also have the opportunity to reach the sea, descending between the high rock walls. Take the dirt road for about a kilometer that starts from here. You will descend to a small cove, with some space to stretch out and enjoy this landscape from its heart. In this cove there is also a kiosk, to be able to enjoy something to drink or eat. But above all, you will have the opportunity to book a boat for a tour of Cape Drastis from the sea. Something absolutely recommended, which will allow you to admire the cliffs from a privileged point of view. But also to discover ravines, caves and coves otherwise impossible to reach. Probably the best way to enjoy this stretch of Corfu coast.

There is actually a cove, not far away, which can also be reached on foot. And it has a particular reputation. This is Loggas Beach, otherwise known as Sunset Beach. Being one of the first coves on the west coast, arriving from the north, it faces the setting sun. An excellent point to be enveloped in a halo of romance at sunset. To get there, you walk down a fairly steep road, with wooden and stone steps, which leads to the sea. Those who reach this place can also exploit the clayey conformation of the rock to obtain mud to spread on the body. So as to benefit from it for the skin and body.

Where to sleep near Cape Dastris

If you are lucky enough or quick to book, you will have the option of staying overnight in the nearby village of Peroulades. In fact, there are few holiday homes available in this small village near Capo Dastris. But it's worth a try.

Even if you can't find accommodation around here, the advice is to treat yourself to a visit. Peroulades is a very old town on the island of Corfu. Its origins are traced back to the late Middle Ages. And, among its houses, the influence of Venetian architecture can still be seen strongly. Just take a good look at the front doors of the houses, and the friezes of Venetian families engraved on the stone.
