Blue Lagoon Beach Cyprus

2 minutes to read

The incredible Blue Lagoon Beach is one of the most beautiful attractions of the eclectic Cyprus Island. We find it in the Akamas Peninsula to the northwest in the National Park in the Paphos region. The capital Nicosia is located about a hundred kilometers to the north.

The closest settlement to Blue Lagoon is Neo Chorio and is nine kilometers from the beautiful lagoon that offers an extraordinary landscape made of wild and intact nature with many shades of blue.

A bay of fine golden sand, surrounded by rock formations dotted with Mediterranean scrub, clean and crystalline waters with a sea of crazy colors, all shades of blue ranging from light blue to bright turquoise and again from cobalt blue to electric blue , in short, a real paradise that certainly has nothing to envy to Caribbean destinations indeed, it is much more close at hand less than three hours from most of Europe.

The seabed descends slowly, forming natural pools, perfect for relaxing by literally staying "in the water" during the hottest days. Blue Lagoon is a perfect place for snorkelers thanks to its coral reef, here you can admire the underwater world made up of many species of fish and fish flora, so don't forget your fins and mask!

The beach, being part of a protected reserve, is not at all equipped here you will be only and exclusively in contact with Mother Nature which certainly does not offer comfort but on the other hand satisfies widely with its shocking beauty. If you decide to stay all day or for a long time, then remember to equip yourself with a good protective cream first of all, something to shelter you from the sun's rays, water and food. As always, we recommend that you have the utmost respect for the territory and the environment, avoiding leaving in the trash and keeping everything clean.

In addition to its extraordinary charm, there are magical stories around Blue Lagoon. According to Greek mythology Aphrodite Goddess of Love was born in these waters and used to bathe in the lagoon. It was here that he met his beloved Adonis, and the legend says that if you are touched by a drop of water from the adjacent bay, it is enough to fall in love with your travel companion, so be very careful and choose well with whom to visit this fairy place.

As you are in the area, you can take advantage of going to visit the Aphrodite Baths, a small fresh pond that according to tradition was the favorite place of the Goddess to dive and meet her great love where, however, swimming is strictly forbidden but only the being in such a special place is enough. And again take a trip to Petra Tou Romiou the place where Aphrodite was born, another beautiful beach with two imposing stacks and where following the paths it is possible to reach the hill at the top and enjoy a spectacular view especially at sunset. The myth attributes to these rocks miraculous properties, it is said that those who swim around the boulder three times counterclockwise will be blessed with eternal beauty, while another tells that if you swim at midnight or find a heart-shaped stone on the shore, let eternal love be found. Obviously if you want to try this adventure you must be an expert swimmer because the currents can be a big obstacle and dangerous. A little curiosity about Petra Tou Romiou: it is said that the largest rock is one of the rocks thrown by Diogenes, a Greek hero of infinite strength who, to defend the island from enemy attacks, hurled him against huge boulders.

How to get to Blue Lagoon Beach

There are four alternatives, either by sea, on foot or by a 4x4 or quad vehicle and finally by public bus.

By sea. First of all you need to arrive in Latchi where you can opt for either the rental of a boat or a dinghy and then enjoy the day independently, or rely on an organized excursion. There are many tourist agencies that take care of this enchanting tour, but we recommend that you book it early as there are many visitors who want to do this experience and especially in high season the places are snapped up.

On foot. You have to get to Polis and from here a path in about an hour and a half allows you to reach Blue Lagoon. In this regard, we advise you to wear comfortable shoes, bring water and a hat as the path is completely under the sun.

Car or quad. Opt for a 4x4 or quad bike because the road is unpaved, full of holes and if you do it with a normal car you risk being left on foot in the middle of nowhere.

Bus. Let's say that with the bus it is perhaps the most challenging method because you have to reach the Baths of Aphrodite in Latchi and then continue or on foot and are about five kilometers (the bus does not reach Polis), or rent a quad for the last stretch of road.

What can be said further about this little corner of Eden? Which definitely must be put among the things to see in Cyprus and to go there absolutely, it will be an unforgettable day from all points of view.
