Ayia Napa Beach Cyprus

2 minutes to read

Ayia Napa, we find it in the north east part of the multifaceted of Cyprus Island, right on the border between the two parts of the island the Greek one to the west and for a small Turkish piece to the east and Ayia Napa is just the border between two worlds so much different.

The place where transgression is at home and where lovers of libertine holidays arrive by the thousands during the long tourist period, because thanks to its excellent position on the island of Cyprus the sun shines for almost the whole year (we in February during the day we were in short sleeves just to give you an idea).

At 50 kilometers the Mosque and the Famagusta city theater of the Shekspirana dell'Otello tragedy, to date Ayia Napa has become one of the most sought after destinations for a holiday based on easy and free sex for both sexes without anymore distinction. Once almost unknown to tourism and a simple fishing village, over the decades the rapid progress has transformed it into one of the most equipped seaside towns with all possible comforts as well as a fabulous stretch of sea.

Cyprus let's face it is actually a small earthly paradise, if during your holiday in Greece you have the opportunity to go there you will realize how beautiful it is and how many faces it has, it can satisfy any taste, from lovers of the sea, to the mountains, to people who love trekking to those who prefer archaeological, historical and mythological sites, let's not forget that the beautiful Goddess Aphrodite was born here!

We specify that Cyprus is not such a cheap island, comforts and entertainment have a price, but the value for money spent is certainly well balanced, there is something for all budgets starting from those half-full ones but...

The town of Ayia Napa is not really big but it offers beautiful beaches that are besieged by young and old alike. The most famous is the Nissi beach, a sort of Eden with a six hundred meter long coastline of soft white sand with a sea of transparent waters that change from blue to turquoise and seabed that descend slowly. All around an exotic environment of palm trees and verdant mountains. Super equipped, there is no shortage of sun beds, umbrellas, beach bars, water sports and parties on parties! Foam parties, DJ sets from around the world, Miss Wet Shirt, live concerts and rivers of booze. The watchword here is "Grasp" and here it depends on the tastes and orientations of each one. For an aperitif he moves us to the center as well as for after dinner where between discos and bars some open until two in the morning, others that open at two and close at noon the next day, there is only the embarrassment of choice to have fun and find a mate or a mate to end with a flourish (the luckiest and most daring even manage to change partners every evening).

Everything is an excess in Ayia Napa, so if you are a family with children, avoid the areas where there are night clubs because if you are not very open-minded you may even be shocked.

Said this way it seems a Dante's circle, in reality Ayia Napa is also capable of offering interesting things and of a much higher cultural depth. For example, you could go to visit the Tornaritis Pierides Museum to discover the marine fauna of the island and the Mediterranean Sea, and again the Ayia Napa Monastery dedicated to Our Lady of the Forests with its high walls. Napa in Greek means wooded valley by virtue of the morphology of the island which is rich in vegetation.

The monastery has the shape of a medieval castle, dates back to 1500 AD and is partly excavated in the rock. The ancient sycamore tree at the south entrance is over six hundred years old.

It then continues with the Makronissos tombs to the west of the village, an archaeological site where an ancient necropolis preserves nineteen tombs carved into the rock of the Roman and Hellenistic period as well as a small sanctuary and a quarry. According to the archaeologists, the sarcophagi were of clay with three tiles on top while the tombs had a rectangular entrance closed by stone slabs.

And again the ghost town of Famagusta with its mosque and here we naturally have some thoughts of how it is possible that two places one sacred and one so profane can live in perfect harmony... The castle in the old city dates back to the fourteenth century and it was built to protect itself from the attacks of marauders. Deep moats and imposing walls that are difficult to conquer surround it. Nowadays you can still observe iron cannonballs as well as a panorama that sweeps over the sea. Place that inspired Shakespeare for the mythical Othello a sad love story.

If you go another six kilometers from Famagusta, you will meet Salamina, Archaeological Park where you can admire a large basilica from the early Christian period which for a long time was the most important center of worship on the island of Cyprus, or the temple dedicated to Zeus as well as many other finds from various eras ranging from Roman to Byzantine.

And finally Capo Greco the National Park where the environment is completely uncontaminated and of a disarming beauty. A corner of paradise where snorkelers and trekking enthusiasts have something to enjoy. A multitude of rare flowers and plants grow spontaneously as many animal species have found their ideal habitat. It was originally covered with a forest of junipers cut down in the 20th century to power the steam mills in the area. Reaching the Chapel of Agioi Anarguroi on top of a rock you can enjoy a unique panorama. For those who prefer water, the sea caves along the coast up to the Kamara tou Koraka bridge will be a playground for the discovery of the marine world. It can also be reached on foot through somewhat challenging paths, therefore only for experts.

How to get to Ayia Napa

Being one of the most famous tourist resorts there are many possibilities to reach it. If you have your own vehicle then you are good to go.If you are not independent, there are public bus rides from all tourist areas only be aware of the timetables.

Ayia Napa beyond its dark side, is still a beautiful area to visit, put it among the things to see in Cyprus, avoiding certain places will be a great surprise full of interesting things to know.
